Foundation (Prep)

Congratulations to all Prep C students for their fabulous performance on Tuesday night. It was very brave to sing and dance on stage in front of such a big audience. Thank you to all the families who were able to attend, I could tell your presence motivated the children to show you their best performance.

Literacy

In Literacy this week, we have focused on the picture story book, Window, by Jeannie Baker. The book has no text, so together as a class we created the narrative to go with the pictures. Using the setting in the book and picture clues about the main character, students chose to write about what happened at the beginning or the end of the story. This term we are focusing on stories and retelling the beginning, middle and end. Developing an understanding of the structure of a narrative will assist the students to start writing their own stories.

This week we started Reader's Workshop groups. I would like to thank all of the parents for their support with this program. It allows the students to delve deeper into books and follow up activities, pitched at an appropriate level for each child.

Numeracy

In Maths, we are revisiting Addition. We began the week talking about where we see numbers in the world around us and then recapped an early addition strategy, counting on from the larger number. Throughout the week, students have had the opportunity to practise adding, using numbers they feel comfortable with.

It has been another busy week for the children. I hope you find some time to enjoy a little rest this weekend.
