Principal's Message

Dear Families,

It was fantastic to see the students refreshed and ready for a great Term 3 together after the holidays. School holidays are a good opportunity for students to reflect on their efforts and achievements during semester one, and recharge for semester two. This is particularly important for our Year 12 students who have now entered their final full term of secondary schooling. Our students have so much to be proud of, and we recently recognised this with several hundred awards to students for excellent academic achievements, effort and attendance.

I encourage every student to use the feedback from your teachers to assist you to achieve your personal best. If you have not done so already, it is essential that each family set aside time to read the semester one report and discuss these results with your child prior to parent/teacher interviews on Tuesday 8th August. Our school places high importance on the value of feedback to every child, to support them in achieving the best possible learning outcomes.

Term 3 is an extremely busy term full of exciting programs and events for our students, with the theatre production, annual concert, Mt Buller ski camp and Careers programs to name a few.  Our Year 12 students will be completing their work requirements ready for assessment, while some prepare for exams early next term. I wish each Year 12 student all the best for a positive term and encourage you to enjoy and make the most of your remaining time together at VUSC. We wish them all the very best as they strive to successfully complete their studies and get ready to embark on a new journey.

School Theatre Production

Tickets are sold out for our school theatre production on Thursday 3rd August and Friday 4th August. Both shows start at 6pm in our theatre in Building H at the Senior Campus. Our talented students worked alongside Western Edge Youth Arts to provide ideas and stimulus for the original script and have been rehearsing each week for the last few months. We look forward to seeing what I'm sure will be an excellent performance as always.

Annual Concert - Thursday 24th August

The college warmly invites our school community to support our music students and enjoy some spectacular music performances at this fantastic event. We look forward to seeing you there.

The concert will be held at:

Brimbank Salvation Army Church

2A Roseleigh Blvd, Sydenham

Storm Cup Grand Final Winners!

Congratulations to our Senior Boys Rugby League team who comprehensively defeated Mt Ridley College in the semi final last month and had a gutsy win against Hallam SC on 2nd August with the final scores 16-14! Congratulations to Philip Masalosalo who was judged best on ground in this game! The team is now heading to Sydney to play Patrician Brothers Blacktown in the quarter finals of the Peter Mulholland Cup on 16th August.  Well done to the boys and coach Mr Adam, you have made us extremely proud!

A reminder to students that free food from Foodbank is available every day at lunch time, in the kitchen at the rear of Building B at the Senior Campus and at the Coordinators' office at the Junior Campus. All students are welcome.

Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents / caregivers / guardians think of our school. The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour and student engagement. The survey is optional but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open from Monday 7 August to Friday 8 September 2023. Please see Compass for the survey link.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

Please speak to one of the Principal team if you would like more information.

NCCD

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) is a yearly count of students by all Australian schools across the country. The aim of the NCCD is to provide the Australian Government with information about the number of students with disability in Australian schools and the type of adjustments they need in order to access and participate in education on the same basis as other students.

We are required by law to advise parents/guardians about how we collect data about their child for this purpose and how it will be used. To view this information and download a fact sheet, please click here: https://www.nccd.edu.au/for-parents-guardians-and-carers

Thank You

A reminder to parents/carers that Compass is our primary way of communicating with families. All student reports, both progress and end of semester, are available on Compass. We would like you to access these reports and discuss them with your child or children. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's progress, please feel free to contact your child's subject teacher or Year Level Coordinator.

Thank you to all of you, as parents/carers, who ensure that your child/children arrive on time for school each day, in uniform and prepared to learn. We greatly appreciate your support.

I wish everyone a successful Term 3.

Elaine Hazim

College Principal
