NMPS Results

Our Year 3 and 5 students were recently provided with a copy of their 2023 NAPLAN results. This year’s results look different to previous years. Students were assessed against four measures of proficiency- ‘Exceeding’, ‘Strong’, ‘Developing’, and ‘Needs Additional Support’. The reason for the change was to give parents and schools a clearer picture of student learning across each of the domains (Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, and Numeracy).

Whilst we do not yet have the full state and national comparisons, we are extremely proud of our Year 3 and 5 students. Due to the change in proficiency measures, we are (at this stage) unable to compare our results with previous years, but wanted to share a few key highlights with our community:

  • 90% of students in Year 3 and 82% of Year 5 students have been measured as Exceeding or Strong in Reading
  • 87% of Year 3 students and 86% of Year 5 students have been measured as Exceeding or Strong in Writing
  • 85% of Year 3 students and 82% of Year 5 students have been measured as Exceeding or Strong in Numeracy.
  • Our Year 3 students have been measured as 15% higher than our local network schools in Grammar and Punctuation.
  • 84% of Year 5 students have been measured as Exceeding or Strong in Spelling.

We are very proud of the work we have been doing over the past few years, particularly with our Balanced Literacy approach, Writer’s Workshop, and our approach to Mathematics. These pedagogies have been well-researched, strategically implemented and monitored, and have been selected to meet the needs of our school data. Our teachers collaboratively plan based on our student data, and differentiate the curriculum to support all learning needs. Our students from Prep to Year 6 ask questions, collaborate, use individual goal-setting strategies, and challenge their thinking to extend their learning, every day.

The hard work by our teachers and students is clearly demonstrated in our 2023 NAPLAN results. We are so proud.

Well done NMPS!
