Meet Our New Librarian - Ms Adriaans

As you may know, The Brigidine Library has welcomed an amazing new Library assistant - Ms Catherine Adriaans. Ms Adriaans joins us from a background of various medical science and administrative roles.

Here is a brief introduction of Ms Adriaans:

I've returned to St Joseph's via a long and varied pathway! After completing Year 12 at St Joes I spent the summer working as a deckhand on the PS Pride of the Murray before heading to RMIT to study B. App. Sci. in Medical Laboratory Science. My time working in medical science has involved research (clinical trials evaluating influenza vaccines), scientific sales and diagnostic pathology (virology, microbiology, biochemistry, coagulation studies, transfusion medicine and haematology). Upon marrying and moving to Birchip, I turned to more administrative roles for the Buloke Shire and the Birchip Cropping Group before becoming an at-home-Mum and doing part-time administrative duties for Birchip Agronomy Group. My husband and I, along with our two children, returned to Echuca at the beginning of 2022 and when a position became available at St Joes this year I jumped at the chance to work at my old school!

What is your academic background?

Bachelor of Applied Science from RMIT.

Interesting fact about you?

I have met Sir David Attenborough twice!

Why libraries? What led you to library work?

Fate - along with the opportunity to expand my skill set (which can never be too broad).

Favorite food?

Eye fillet steak.

Favorite book (of course we have to ask this of our library staff!)

Just one? It usually depends on what I have just finished. I recently read the crime/suspense series by Nicci French.

Are you from Echuca?

Yes, although I spent my first nine years in Gippsland.

Favorite pastime?

I really enjoy photography, and exploring new places. I also love spending holiday time in Bright and the surrounding High Country.

Literacy Week Preparation is Underway

This year's Literacy Week will be held on the 19-25 August and explores the theme of ‘Read, Grow, Inspire.’

Watch this space for more information to come.

Stay well and keep reading!
