Sports Report
Netball Victoria Championships
On Tuesday 20 June, St Joseph’s College travelled to Shepparton to compete in the Netball Victoria Championships with seven teams from Years 7-12 across the junior, intermediate and senior divisions.
All our teams showed determination and fantastic team spirit on the day and are to be commended for their positive attitude and encouragement of each other. In particular we would like to congratulate our Year 8, Year 9 and Year 12 teams who have qualified to compete in the next round in Parkville during August/September!
Huge thank you to all of our coaches Mrs Ang Bourke, Ms Trinity Keath, Ms Tyler Rosendale, Ms Zoe Taylor, Mrs Claire Orton, Mrs Carri Carter and Ms Jacquie James.
Loddon Mallee Region Year 8 Girls Soccer
The Year 8 Girls soccer team competed at the Loddon Mallee Region soccer final in Moama on Friday 14 July. The competition was tough and our girls put up a good fight against Castlemaine and Mildura.
After going down in the first match, our students picked themselves up and showed determination and spirit throughout their second game.
Although they weren’t at the top of the ladder at the end of the day, the students were grateful for the experience and loved every minute on the field! Thank you to Mr Romano and Miss Clarke for their support on the day.
Loddon Mallee Region Year 11&12 Girls/Boys Basketball
Our Senior Boys and Senior Girls had a tough day at the Basketball stadium on Friday 14 July. With strong competition from CMC and Mildura Senior, our Senior Boys team were defeated in both games.
Our Senior Girls team had a tight tussle with Bendigo Senior which went into time on and ended with them narrowly losing by 5 points.
Well done to all of the senior basketball players for bringing everything to the court. Thank you to Mrs Belinda Lees and Mr Kaine Anderson for coaching.
State Cross Country Results
We had ten students trek to the Yarra Glen Race Course to compete in the State Cross Country Championships on Thursday 13 July. Nestled amongst the vineyards in the Yarra Valley, the track was muddy and the terrain slightly hillier than our backyard for the 3km and 5km course. However, the sun was shining and so were our students!
Each and every one of them gave it their all on the day and left nothing behind. With a challenging course and competing against the best in the state, our students did St Joseph’s College proud! They showed grit and determination and persistence right to the finish line. A courageous effort by Ky Henson who crossed the line in 14th place and Lynkoln Richardson in 24th place.
A commendable effort by our Boys 14 years age group, who achieved 5th place and the Boys 16 years who ended up in 4th place overall!
Congratulations to all participants - Amalie Southern, Lynkoln Richardson, Jack Byrne, Xan Spiers, Mitchell Sutton, Ned Ash-Townrow, Jye Berryman, Ky Henson, Xavier Mallick and Oliver Williams. Thank you to Mr Chakabva and the families who travelled to support the team.
Equestrian
Our very own Ava Irwin (Year 7) recently represented Australia in the Australian 14 & Under Dressage team for Pony Club Australia. This is a world-wide virtual event and Ava’s section was judged from Canada.
Ava received an incredible 2nd place and her team achieved 1st place in the world! This was a dream come true for Ava! Congratulations Ava on this wonderful achievement and amazing experience. We wish you the very best of luck as you represent the Victorian team.
Swimming
Ayla McAsey (Year 7) has been training hard at EWMAC. Ayla is clocking up the kms each week as she has been selected to compete in the National Swimming Championships in Sydney after achieving much success at the State Swimming Championships in April. We wish Ayla every success in the pool. We’re in awe of your dedication and achievements so far Ayla!
Campaspe Girls AFL- Year 7&8 and Year 9&10
Twas a brisk foggy morning as the girls made their way to Nathalia. First game was up against SMOTA where we kicked the dew off the grass, and the pants off our opponents. That game Eliza Frazer played out of her skin, kicking three snags and Beth Morris going to work like someone who had just got a new job.
Second game went to the beat of the same drum with the Joey’s girls continuing their victorious ways. This one was against St Augs, where Rose took a ripping contested mark, causing Cantas to squeal and jump up and down like a little kid on Christmas morning. Honourable mentions go to Grace Riddell and Maddy Williams for being unshakeable in their attack on the ball.
Game three came with a feeling of defeat and triumph, the anxiety travelled through both St Joey’s and Rochy as both teams were undefeated for the day. The pressure presented by Mitsch was unforgettable and Chatters put on a show finishing the game with two game changing goals (a real Dusty type performance)!
As the girls sat on the bus with a heart full and smiles beaming from ear to ear, they had learnt the trials and tribulations of the great game of football and would ride this high and take this knowledge to regionals to hopefully repeat their efforts for the day in Swan Hill.
