NAPLAN Results Released
The 2023 NAPLAN results have been released to schools, and hard copies will be posted to families over the coming week. At St Joseph's, our staff use the NAPLAN data to inform their teaching practices in the classroom. We have access to specific information about students' strengths and areas for growth across the five assessed domains. In the following weeks, our English and Maths teams will be analysing this data in detail.
Starting from 2023, NAPLAN reporting introduced new standards, replacing the previous numerical NAPLAN reporting bands and national minimum standards. These new proficiency standards offer clear information on student achievement and are set at a challenging yet reasonable level, aligning with what was taught in previous years of schooling.
There are four proficiency levels:
- Exceeding: The student's result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
- Strong: The student's result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
- Developing: The student's result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.
- Needs additional support: The student's result indicates that they are not achieving the expected learning outcomes at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.
For a more comprehensive explanation of how to interpret student reports, you can find a pdf guide here or video here.
Should you have any questions regarding the interpretation of your child's NAPLAN results, please don't hesitate to contact your child's Learning Mentor teacher or myself. We are here to assist you in understanding the outcomes and providing any necessary guidance.
While these results are essential, we also recognise that they are just one part of your child's educational journey. At St Joseph's, we value the holistic growth of your child and remain committed to supporting their academic progress and personal development throughout their time here.
