New Learning Spaces

Our new contemporary spaces have been designed to enhance learning and create learning spaces where students are able to develop their creativity and collaborative skills.  The purposeful furniture caters for all students and creates areas for whole-class, small group and independent work. Teachers are able to effectively assist them to achieve their full potential when learning within the classroom.

While our contemporary, innovative learning spaces look amazing, and we are certainly blessed to have them, what happens within the space is most important; by this I am referring to the relentless focus on learning and the best in pedagogy and teacher practices.

In our learning spaces we have:

Spaces where students engage in whole-class, small group and independent activities

The ‘guided table’ (or  ‘jellybean table’) where teachers work with students on their learning goals in small groups

Places where students visualise their thinking (whiteboard surfaces)

Learning Intentions and Success Criteria displayed on the walls - these guide the learning and assist students to self-assess

The 5 Learning Questions poster

‘VCOP walls’ and ‘word walls’ that provide support during KLA literacy activities across all Key Learning Areas

State-of-the-art ICT systems

NAPLAN

This year the NAPLAN testing window is Tuesday 12th May to Friday 22nd May (Term 2 Weeks 3 & 4).  During this time all students in Years 3 and 5 will complete the following online assessments:

Writing (paper for Year 3 only)

Reading

Conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation)

Numeracy

Next week, Years 3 and 5 students will participate in an online practice test.  The practice test consists of a selection of sample reading, conventions of language and numeracy questions.  Year 5 will also complete a practice writing test. The purpose of the practice test is to ensure our technology infrastructure is sound and to troubleshoot any technical issues that may arise. It also gives students a ‘heads-up’ on the NAPLAN Online platform and the types of questions that may be asked.  Schools and parents do not receive individual students results from the Practice Test.

Have a wonderful week!
