As we near the half way mark of the school year, I’m mindful that the end of the year is approaching fast, particularly for the Year 12's. It’s a tough time. Many things to complete and a mind that drifts to what will happen, when they move past secondary schooling. We commonly give out the advice to stay present, don’t sweat the small stuff, organise your time and ask for assistance to give themselves their best shot at success. Sometimes it’s overwhelming and we help with coping strategies, building resilience and a myriad of other personalised approaches to build study and life skills. If you have any concerns about your student, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
VAPING
Vaping has become more prevalent in schools in recent months. The college has implemented a new Vaping Strategy to address the increase in incidence. Vaping is not an acceptable coping strategy and is not welcome at the College. I encourage you to read the information for parents provided (click on the link) and have a conversation with your student about vaping.
WELLBEING AND CULTURE DAY
We held our inaugural Wellbeing and Culture Day on Wednesday this week, where we collectively acknowledged Reconciliation Day, NAIDOC week, and RUOK? Day. I would like to acknowledge and thank Holyoake and the Wheatbelt Suicide Prevention Project for their generous grant of $2000 to assist with the costs of the event.
Feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive. Most staff and all students participated in a range of workshops focussing on culture and wellbeing, to build our knowledge and skills in these areas. A huge thank you to all our presenters. Their time and effort was greatly appreciated.
Amy Coombe – Inspirational mental health speaker
Frank Davis – Ballardong Noongar Elder
Men’s Health Initiative – Pit Stop health check
Wheatbelt Mental Health Services – Interactive games
School Psychologist - RUOK? contacts for mates in need
Follow the Dream – Indigenous art
A staff versus Students netball game was held at the end of the presentations, a special dinner, and a movie was shown in the evening. Please ask your student about the event. We always welcome feedback on how to improve the Student Services. Stay safe.
