Teaching and Learning News

Term 3 is a bit like the third quarter in a footy or netball game - or any other sport that is played in 4 time periods.

It is the premiership quarter. This comes from the belief that the third quarter is the most important quarter to win in a match to increase a team's chances of winning the game and, later, the premiership.

We've done the hard yards in Terms 1 & 2; established relationships and routines, set high expectations, reflected on what is working and not working. We have set up the conditions for our students to grow and develop academically, spiritually, emotionally and socially.

This term is called “the premiership” quarter for a reason. It is where we use all the knowledge we have gathered in Semester 1 and continue to plan high quality learning experiences for our students. Our students will be working hard to achieve the goals set at learning conversations. These goals are the next steps in their learning. It is important to check in with your child and ask if they need any support to achieve their goals.

Three Way Learning Conversations

Thank you to our families who attended three way learning conversations, either face to face or online. Research shows when schools and families work together, children are more engaged with their school work, achieve better academically, and develop better social skills (Department of Education).

At SMDP we constantly reflect and evaluate our practices to ensure we are meeting the needs of our learners and their families and providing the best educational practice.

We would really appreciate it if you could take the time to complete the short survey linked hereand reflect on your experience of the three way learning conversations conducted at the end of Semester 1 2022.

This feedback will be used to refine, change or adapt our next learning conversations. We thank you in advance for your time.

We look forward to this term and working hard to “win the third quarter”.
