Climate Canons

Centre St Basin

Planting natives in the neighbourhood

OUR Year 7 and 8 Climate Canons were involved in a tree planting event with the City of Canning on Thursday 23rd June. The planting of native sedges and rushes occurred at the Centre Street Basin to beautify the area and manage waste and runoff. The plants were provided by the Leach Welshpool Alliance with representatives telling students about the importance of creating safe native habitats. The students were assisted by Mr Harvey, Mrs Bunyan and Miss Muir. It was a muddy experience but fun was had by all and the students were excellent ambassadors of the College, truly demonstrating they are prepared for all good works.

Climate Canons' working lunch

On Tuesday, 28 June, the Year 11 and 12 Climate Canons had the opportunity to be involved in a mentoring program with Tamara Smith, Director and Service Line Operations Manager at 360 Environmental, a consultancy company in Perth.

The engaging and rewarding working lunch enabled our students to hear from an expect in the field, consider pathways and future job prospects, and understand female empowerment in the workplace. Thank you to Tamara Smith, for taking the time out of her busy schedule to mentor our senior Climate Canons, to Mr Dowling for his support and the wonderful Café 135 staff for catering.

Ms Tamara Smith speaks about her career in the resources and environmental sectors.
