Reports out now

SEMESTER One Reports have been uploaded to SEQTA.  This report provides students and parents an opportunity to reflect upon progress and to consider what adjustments can be made to improve performance. The report also indicates whether teachers would like to meet with families at the Parent/Student/Teacher Interviews next term. We encourage all students to use this valuable feedback as an opportunity to reflect upon their Semester One performance and to set goals that would enable further academic improvement next semester.

Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews

Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews will take place on Tuesday, 19 July between 12.00pm and 7.00pm. These interviews will be a resumption of the regular face-to-face interviews and will involve all students across Year 7 to Year 12. This day is a Home Study Day, so students do not attend school but should accompany their parents for interviews in their full College Winter Uniform. Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews provide parents with an important opportunity to discuss student progress in more detail with subject teachers. In some cases, teachers have requested an interview on the Report. In these situations, it is important that every effort is made to meet with the subject teachers so that positive actions can be put in place to improve student progress.

The College uses Edval Interviews to book Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews. Parents/Primary Care Givers have received an email instructing them how to access Edval Interviews. The email will also provide parents with a unique log-in code as well as a link to the online booking system. Interview length will be eight minutes with two minutes being allocated for parent movement between teachers. Bookings close at 8.00am on Monday, 18 July. It is important that parents access Edval Interviews as subject teachers, pastoral leaders and Deputy Principals often request additional parent interviews after reviewing the finalised reports.

On the day of the interviews, each teacher will have 36 interview slots available for parents. However, a standard classroom teacher teaches over 100 students across all of their classes – for some teachers that number is closer to 150. It is for this reason that we have restricted interviews to one slot per teacher per student. To help with this, please ensure you only book ONE timeslot with your child’s teacher, even if they teach your child in multiple subjects. If you are unable to secure a timeslot during this round of Parent-Student-Teacher interviews, you may contact the relevant teacher(s) directly via email to arrange a conversation on another date.

For any parent for whom English is not their original language, the College supports the decision to invite a friend or family member to the interviews to provide interpreting assistance. If you have any difficulties accessing Edval Interviews, please contact the College in the second week of the school holidays. Please note that the College Administration is closed during the first week of the holidays.

Subject Selection Online

Subject Selection Online (SSO) is now open to Year 10 and Year 11 students for them to begin making choices about their subjects and pathways for 2023. Students have been sent a link along with instructions on how to access SSO. Students need to be mindful of the Minimum Entry Requirements for those courses that they are interested in studying as students will not be allowed to automatically select subjects for which they have failed to make the prerequisite requirement. Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 will be given the opportunity through SSO to select their elective subjects early in Term Three.

Parent Event: Save the date

The St Norbert College Parent Committee has two exciting events planned for the coming term. The first of these is the ‘Celebrating our Parents & Carers’ Breakfast on Friday, 5 August. With the postponement of the ‘Celebrating our Mothers’ Breakfast in Term Two, this becomes a perfect opportunity to acknowledge all of the mums, dads, guardians & carers in the lives of our students. More details will follow soon but this will event will require parents to RSVP for catering purposes.

The second event will be held on Tuesday, 6 September when the Parent Committee will host Paul Litherland for an information session on ‘Cybersafety for Teenagers’. Paul was nominated as the state recipient for the Australian of the Year 2022 award and is a regular guest to our College to talk to our students about online safety. Further details of this event will be shared early next term.

Upcoming Year 11 Events

Term Three is shaping up for a big term for our Year 11 students. We commence the term by launching our student leadership process for the Year 12 2023 Student Leaders. Soon after this, several of our Year 11 students will heads off on Kairos 32 during Week 3.7.

With many of our Year 11 students logging driving hours towards the attainment of their ‘P’ plates, we have decided to take the whole Year 11 cohort to the RAC Bstreetsmart event which focuses on road safety and on risk taking behaviour on the roads. This is an all-day event that will take place on Wednesday, 14 September and will involve students travelling by train to and from RAC Arena as part of the day.  Finally, Term Three will conclude with the Year 11 Dinner Dance which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 22 September commencing at 6.30pm. Year 11 students will participate in lunchtime dance lessons in the lead up to the Dinner Dance and we have already outlined the dress and behaviour standards expected of students attending the night.

I have no doubt that with all if these things happening, Term Three will be a memorable term for our Year 11 students.

Homerooms in Semester Two

WE are excited to be returning to our vertical Homerooms next semester. The structure of vertical Homerooms has been a special feature of our College since 1987. Having students form Years 7 -12 in a Homeroom enables peer support and relationships with students and their families. It promotes a stronger House spirit and allows senior students the opportunity for leadership, role modelling and support to younger students.

Students are asked to checked their timetables before returning to school next term so ensure they report to the correct Homerooms.

A Family Calendar for Term 3 will be uploaded into SEQTA during the holidays.

Year 11 & 12 WACE Checker

The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority) has developed a WACE Checker to allow students to use to check on their progress towards achieving the WACE. The WACE Checker can be found on the front page of the Authority website at https://www.scsa.wa.edu.au/ opens in new window.

The WACE Checker is a tool which students can use to check their progress towards meeting the requirement of the WACE. It is designed to determine whether a student has met (or is expected to meet) each of the requirements for the WACE.  To use the WACE Checker, students will need to enter their expected or actual achievements in Year 11 and in Year 12.

Early Leave

A number of students and parents/carers are not notifying the College when a student needs to leave during the day. A reminder that the following process is required for students needing to leave the College early:

  • Bring a signed note from a parent explaining the reason for the early leave (eg dental appointment).
  • The note must be handed to the Homeroom teacher or Student Services at the start of the day for recording into SEQTA.
  • An Early leave slip (pink) is to be collected from Student Services at the time of departure.

Medication

Parents and students are reminded that the College is unable to give out any medication (eg Panadol, Nurofen, antihistamine etc) unless it is an emergency. It is recommended that if students need non-prescription medication for headaches and allergies, that they keep a small quantity in their lockers.
