Competition round-up

The Canons have been involved in a number of competitions throughout the term, with a  mix of results in ACC competitions, SSWA competitions and SASJ Sport.  Sports such as AFL, basketball, football, volleyball and netball to name a few were some of the opportunities on offer this term. Our recent results have demonstrated the ability to work together towards a common goal.

Notably in Term 2, our Senior students participated in the ACC Senior Football and Netball Championships. For some of the students involved it will be the last time they represent the College in this sport, and our congratulations goes to the ACC Senior Boys Football and Senior Netball teams for advancing to the next round of the championship bracket. This bracket will continue in Week 2 of Term 3.

Netball

Recently, the Year 7/8 Netball Girls advanced to the Elimination rounds of the SSWA Netball Competition. The girls did extremely well throughout the day against some tough competition and finished the day in second place, only missing out on in the last game of the day by a few points.

Ms Cardenia explains: "After winning all their Round 1 games, the netball team made their way confidently into the Round 2 Elimination Day. Again the weather was looking bleak but that did not dampen the girls' spirits. They played in a round robin of five games against teams from all over the state. Their excellent netball skills were on show for all to see. The girls played their hearts out, showing stamina, sleek passing and awesome shooting and defending, to win four games. Unfortunately the one loss meant they missed out on moving to the finals. We are very proud of the girls for their effort and sportsmanship. We cannot wait to see what they can do as a team in the future.

AFL

Last week the Year 8/9 AFL Boys played in a semi-final against Clontarf Aboriginal College and the team has had a stellar season, finishing in second place with four wins and only one loss. The match-up proved to be a close encounter and the Year 8/9 Boys kicked a goal in the last minute of the game to win by five points.

The team will now play Belmont City College in the Grand Final at the start of Term 3.

Cross Country

Finally, our ACC Cross Country Team represented the College in Week 5 and our team gave their best effort to make an enjoyable day for the College. We had a number of students finish in the top 100 placings which is a great effort for this event. In particular we had two students selected for the ACC Cross Country Allstars Team, and they are:

  • Connor O’Byrne from Year 8 who placed in 5th place overall.
  • Jacob Andrews from Year 9 who placed in 3rd place overall.

Athletics

And just a reminder for next term: Athletics Training commences in Week 1 as preparation for the Inter-House Athletics Carnival in Week 4 and the ACC Athletics Carnival to be held later in Term 3.
