On the Farm this week Mr Adams, Ms Warden and Mr McGee were involved in finishing off lamb marking with the Year 11 students. Mr Adams reported that all the students completed the tasks to a high standard and that we achieved a marking percentage of 122% lambs marked to ewes mated,  compared to 112% in 2021. Well done to all.

AgriFutures Australia Grant

Earlier on this term we were successful in obtaining a $20,000.00 AgriFutures Grant for a soil moisture monitoring, a water tank monitors and a weather station.   I have been notified by the supplier that they will be on site during the holidays to complete the installation, so this will enable us to access this data next term.

Elders Traineeship

Elders have notified us that they have some job opportunities for our students in the way of traineeships involving all aspects of the Elders business in Bunbury.  This is a great opportunity for our students, more information is contained in this newsletter or on our website.

Staffing

On the staffing front, regretfully Mr Ian Millichamp, our Assistant Farm Manager - Beef has tendered his resignation and will be leaving the College on Friday July 22nd.

Ian arrived at the College in April 2017 and took control of our beef herd.  Over the past five years Ian has implemented a pasture improvement program on the beef pastures and an Artificial Insemination Program to improve the genetics of the herd.  This also includes a terminal sire herd so our students can be exposed to cross breeding.  All this work has culminated in the College winning the Gate 2 Plate competition this year.

Ian has also had a large involvement with our Farm Skills teams over his time at the College.

We would like to wish Ian all the best for the future.
