Year 10 Science

We have been finishing this term with a bang. Students have really stepped up in the last couple of weeks to showcase their STEM skills and it has been brilliant watching them shine.

Students were briefed with a set of parameters for creating a rollercoaster out of pool noodles. The coaster must include a minimum of 1 loop, 1 hill and the "cart" must stop before the end of the ride due to friction. Extra points were awarded for "riskier" designs with steeper hills and corkscrew tunnels. We had guest judges come in to award the winners. Well done to Tom Horn and Max Wilson from 10-2.  Sean Walker, Ava Hainsworth and Millah Gray from 10-1.

Year 12 Animal Production

This week students listened to Mr Millichamp discuss the Colleges' beef breeding program. It is so great to have such knowledgeable staff at the College that can collaborate and implement such strong cross-curricular teaching experiences for the students. Students were introduced to the topic of breeding and improvement by having a discussion about how we choose the breeds needed to suit our environmental conditions, meet market requirements and bring in profits. They also discussed the importance of the AI breeding program that the College currently uses and then applied some of this knowledge by suggesting some stud bulls for Mr Millichamp to consider based on a set of genetic characteristics.

Year 12 ATAR Biology

Students spent the last few lessons potting up some snap dragons and sweet pea plants for a genetic inheritance investigation for next term. Many hands make light work.

Year 10 Science

Rocket building with the class was a huge hit. Students really enjoyed designing and building their own rockets which we then launched. The best design reached over 30 meters into the air using a combination or aerodynamical design, stability control and pressurised force.
