Dear Parents / Carers, Families and College Community

This will be my last wrap-up until Term 4,  so I wish you all a safe and enjoyable holiday period and a positive and productive Term 3.

Once again I must thank our staff, students and parents for their support and efforts over this term, particularly in relation to dealing with COVID. It has been hectic and challenging at times but through the collaborative efforts of everyone we have persevered.

Staff

We are managing our way through replacing a number of key staff who are moving on to new challenges. The most recent announcement was that Ian Millichamp is leaving us to start a new role with Farm West,  which is perfect for his expertise and passion. Ian has made a tremendous difference to our beef cattle enterprise to culminate in the recent Harvey Beef Gate to Plate competition win.

I thank Ian for his contribution to the College and wish him success in his future endeavours.  We are obliged to advertise permanent positions, but whilst this takes place we will set up strategies to maintain the program. We do ask our College community to be patient and understanding as we transition through this transition.

Vaping

This week we had to deal with some students with suggestion of vaping and in doing so came across some other issues. A range of sanctions were applied commensurate with each individual’s role.

Summary points from this were:

  • Vaping appears to be far more prevalent at school and at home, with students reporting that it is very common at parties and gatherings. The ease of vaping makes it easy to deceive and so a far more insidious habit than smoking.
  • Items in students’ cars that are on the College premises are still liable to be confiscated or sanctioned. Students and parents need to be very conscious of what is in their cars on returning to the College from leave.

Have a great weekend and term holiday break if you have it.
