5/6 T

Thankfully anther round of remote learning is over. The students did a fantastic job of ensuring they attended the morning google meets and submitted the required work. I was very impressed with their ability to adjust and try their best during a challenging time. Thank you to all the parents and family members who supported the children with their school work.

Literacy

In writing we are continuing to 'show, not tell' in writing. This requires the students to use descriptive language to paint a vivid picture for their audience.

We have been writing poems this week with the students constructing haikus and limericks.

Here are some of the students haikus about lockdown and remote learning.

Elaine

No more seeing friends

I've entered a world of screens

Is this what hell is

Caleb:

Not eating, sore brain

Sinking, boring, writing lots

Sore brain feels broken

Evan:

A frown masks my face

My time goes in slow motion

These walls have caged me

Gabby:

Netflix all day long

eating all the food at home

snuggled in my bed

In reading the students have enjoyed doing 'interest reading' where they chose one of the following topics to read about.

  • The olympics
  • Ancient civilisations and mythology
  • Real life heroes

Maths

In grade 5/6 we have completed our unit on time and are now focussing on chance and probability. The students have enjoyed working on a range of open ended tasks. It has been lovely to see the students back in the classroom and learning together again.

Inquiry

We are continuing preparing for school camp by learning about the Australian Gold Rush. The students have began developing their understanding of what life was like in the 1850's and how the Gold Rush helped to shape Australia.

School Camp

Plans are continuing for our upcoming school camp. It's business as usual! This week information will come home with what to begin organising and what clothes to pack. Please be aware of the requirements from the costume school in regards shoes, socks and accessories. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call Brendan or Tamara. If your child is not intending on coming to camp you need to let the school know asap. Failure to do so may mean camp payment is still required even if your child does not attend.
