Messages from our Specialist team (P.E., STEAM, Music and Mandarin)...

P.E.

Grade 3/4 took on the PE reading challenge for book week. Ikima (34B) and Trina (34D) were are winners with a massive 15 books read in 4 days! Sticking with the "Other world" theme for book week, Grade 3/4 students completed some Harry Potter & Pokemon-style workouts. We also looked at highlights from the Paralympics.

Athletics Day Term 4 - Friday, November 12th (Week 6).

STEAM

Over the past couple of weeks in Remote Learning, the Grade 5 & 6 students have been be designing their very own flying car. They learned about thrust, lift and aerodynamics and included features on their flying cars that accounted for those scientific concepts. This past week, we have been learning about shock absorption. The students designed a spacecraft that could land "softly" - some kids managed to even build it!

Mandarin

The Grade Prep students have been discovering the cultural activity. This week we learned how to write dragon and phoenix in Pinyin as well as Chinese Characters. We have also been very creative in drawing the dragon and phoenix.

Music

The Grade 1/2 students have been learning to play songs on the virtual piano. The goal has been to play these songs as fluently as possible while using the correct fingers for each note.

Learning an instrument takes patience and commitment. It has been exciting to see how much progress students have made over the past 2 weeks with their piano playing in their Seesaw videos. We have some very talented young musicians at South Melbourne Primary School.
