Class Celebrations

Celebrating the growth in our wonderful children on each learning level...

Prep

In Grade Prep, we have been travelling the globe! This week, we have visited Australia, India, China, Spain and Japan. Both our Maths and Literacy lessons have linked to these themes. In Maths, we have been learning about addition and in Literacy, we have been learning to make text-to-self connections with fiction stories. See below for some of our fantastic work!

Grade 1

In Grade 1, we have been learning about alternative spellings in our Literacy Phonics sessions. Children have learnt that phonemes (sounds) they know can be spelt many different ways, for example the /ai/ sound can be spelt with /ai/ like in train, /ay/ like in play or /a-e/ like in cake. The students have now learnt the different spellings for the /ai/ sound, the /ee/ sound and next week will be learning the different /c/ and /ch/ sound spellings. They have done a great job writing stories with words that have the same sounds but different spellings. See some examples below!

Grade 2

In Grade 2, we have been learning about narratives. This week we wrote our own version of the popular fable, 'The boy who cried wolf', by changing aspects of the text such as the characters, setting and problem. Students worked on including an orientation, complication and resolution. The creativity was outstanding! Some titles included: 'The baby dragon who cried mama', 'The boy who cried lava', 'The dog who cried woof' and 'The porcupine who cried sun ghosts'. Have a read of some our fables below!

Grade 3/4

On Wednesday, Grade 3 and 4 participated in an exciting Be Your Greatest webinar where they met Emma Booth and Andrew Edmondson, two Australian Paralympian competing in the Tokyo 2021 Paralympics. This experience was exciting for students as it aligned with their Term 3 Inquiry topic: Someone Else’s Shoes. Emma is a para-equestrian athlete (horse riding) and Andrew is a competitor of wheelchair rugby. During the webinar, students learned about Emma and Andrew’s stories and asked questions. It was wonderful to see how engaged the students were!

Special Achievements:

Congratulations to Sai in Grade 5 who has finished the entire Maths Invaders program. Wow! Sai worked carefully over a few years to play 4 games a week. He always gave his games his full effort so he passed each level and therefore got to learn new maths skills. We are so proud of you, Sai!

Congratulations to Kaniya in Grade 6 whose loving family member entered her artwork into an art exhibition. It won 2nd place! Someone also bought her drawing for $50. Well done Kaniya, you should be very proud!
