Reminders:
Weekly Learning:
Alongside their Webex check-ins and Seesaw tasks, we strongly encourage students to practise the following essential skills each day:
-Phase 3 Phonics Sounds- see here for video link
-High Frequency Words- see here for video link
-Reading aloud- please get in touch with your child's class teacher if you are struggling with access to books. There are some online resources we may be able to direct you towards.
Attendance
We are so grateful to our families for supporting our youngest students to attend their Webex classes each day. These sessions provide opportunity for students to engage with new learning and to connect with their teachers and peers. A reminder to let your child’s class teacher know via email if your child is going to be absent from class for the day- in addition to adding an explanation on Compass.

Reminders:
We have had to reschedule our Itsy Bitsy cooking incursion a few times now. We have decided to go ahead with an online cooking demonstration. Deanne will be showing students how to make focaccia, which links to our learning earlier in the term about writing recipes. If you wish, your child can cook along at this time which will require some assistance, however this is completely optional. We understand many parents are working or busy so we will send out the recipe afterwards and you may wish to follow the recipe at home on the weekend, or your child can just watch, no cooking required!
Apps
We are encouraging children to keep up with the apps we do on iPads. These apps fit with our school's approach and really help children to learn. They are also at each's child's level so they can work on the skills they need. We ask children to do one Mathseeds lesson on Tuesdays, one Reading Eggs lesson on Wednesdays and one game of Maths Invaders each day, Monday to Thursday. Students can also use Quizlet to practice High Frequency Words.

Reminders:
You can use Seesaw families to see the work your child is completing and you can also 'like' the work. In addition to the tasks we set, we really want students to be reading for at least 20 minutes a day. At the end of the day, you could ask your child what they have read, why they liked it or what they learned from their reading.
In-visits and excursions
Due to the current lockdown and situation with COVID-19, we are unable to go ahead with the following event as planned:
-Afrobeat drumming
We have rescheduled this in visit for Term 4, Week 3.

Reminders:
Using Microsoft Teams for communication
It is important for students to stay connected with their teacher throughout Remote Learning. To ensure your child is receiving important reminders, celebrations and feedback from their teacher, please check that your child’s Microsoft Teams has notifications turned on. We also ask that you ensure your child is checking their Chat for teacher feedback, and checking their class’s General page during school hours to see if their teacher has left any important reminders, celebrations or feedback.

Reminders:
Reading:
We are coming in to Week 9, which means that children should achieve 100% of
their reading target by this Friday.
Camp Updates:
As of now, camp is still going ahead. If COVID restrictions prevent us from going, PGL Rumbug will endeavour to reschedule camp to later in Term 4.
In the event that camp is cancelled and we are unable to reschedule, or your child cannot attend camp on the new dates, Miss Tess will refund the amount paid for camp, including your $100 deposit.
Miss Tess has been in contact with families this week about payment plans. The first payment is due on Friday 10th September 2021.

Remote Learning Expectations:
As always, we are incredibly grateful and lucky to work alongside such supportive families. Some families have asked us, 'What should I be checking for?' We put a timetable up on a Teams post every morning to support the students with scheduling their work and study breaks. We encourage you to ask your child to show you the daily schedule on Teams. Here is an example one so you know what to look for.
Below is a simplified breakdown of the weekly work expectations for students, and a timetable to show what this might look like across the week.
Grade 5/6 Weekly Work Expectations for Students:
The JSC met on Thursday for the final time this term. We are looking forward to organising a trial period of loaning sports equipment when we are back at school. Also, we are brainstorming ideas for a Term 4 Fundraiser.
