Enter the Wellbeing Zone

Welcome to the Wellbeing Zone. When you enter the zone, you will find a wealth of information about all the things happening in the Wellbeing space at Sunshine Heights PS as well as strategies, articles, book recommendations and events that will help build our dream and culture of Wellbeing throughout our school community, inside and outside of school, so that we can sail together through a universe of possibilities with all the emotional and social skills we need to thrive.

Together Again.

We couldn't be happier to see all of our families and students back onsite today. We know lockdown 5.0 was hard on our hearts and minds, but this week we have been reveling in being back together again and focusing on re-connecting, sharing our experiences and focusing on our wellbeing.

With love,

Francine

Additional Childcare Subsidy

Did you know that you may be eligible for an additional childcare subsidy (ACCS) for child wellbeing?

The ACCS includes four elements -

 • ACCS (child wellbeing) - for families who require practical help to support their children’s safety and wellbeing (the focus of this guide)

 • ACCS (grandparent) - for grandparents who are the primary carers of their grandchildren  • ACCS (temporary financial hardship) - for families experiencing temporary financial hardship

 • ACCS (transition to work) – for families transitioning from income support to work.

The ACCS is a separate payment to Child Care Subsidy (CCS). ACCS has more generous rate caps than CCS with the exception of the ACCS (transition to work), and will cover all of a child’s child care fees in most cases.

The Sunny Heights ZINE Club - Session 2

We had an awesome virtual launch of our Sunny Heights Zine Club this week for our P-2 and 3-6 students.

Our young zine makers in P-2 explored the beautiful book 'A Shelter for Sadness' written by Anne Booth & David Litchfield, while our zine makers in 3-6 explored 'The Red Tree' written and illustrated by Shaun Tan.

In both groups, students were invited to make connections to the books, explore key themes around emotions, wellbeing and mental health and draw inspiration for their own future zines that will explore those key themes!

We were so blown away by the engagement and responses, and the incredible thinking our students shared in our webex ZINE meets!

We can't wait to be in person for our next sessions being held next Tuesday lunchtime for P-2s and Thursday lunch time for 3-6s. Students will continue explore their own ideas for zines about wellbeing, mental health and emotions!

See the updated schedule for our ZINE club below, and if you would like to revisit the read aloud stories at home, you can view them below too <3

Update on Art Therapy Program with Kanling

Kanling has been busy developing the Art Therapy program and connecting in with families while we have been remote and we can't wait for her to get started and add another rich layer of support for our students and families.

BREAKFAST CLUB.

In exciting news, as Breakfast Club is an essential service, we are able to continue to run it within the current guidelines and restrictions.

Breakfast Club runs everyday from 8:30-8:55AM

Cereals and fruit will be served outside of the canteen in the Specialist Hub. To access Breakfast Club from 8:30AM, you will need to enter the school via the main entrance at Mailey Street. All other gates will be closed until their usual opening time of 8:40AM.

All students and families are welcome to Breakfast Club! Students must be accompanied to Breakfast Club by a parent/carer/guardian/adult and supervised until 8:45AM when teachers are on yard duty. All adults on the school grounds must wear masks, use QR code on Specialist Building door to sign in if you are staying on the grounds for Breakfast Club and must social distance where possible.

Due to the popularity of Breakfast Club, having a minimum of 2 parent volunteers each day would be ideal. If you are able to volunteer between 8:30AM to 9AM on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday (or any other day too) please email Francine.Sculli@education.vic.gov.au
