Principal Introduction

Dear Parents and Carers,
I have really enjoyed Term 2 and watching the opportunities for growth and success that our students have engaged in, and the gratitude that many of our community have shown during the challenges of lockdown. I would like to thank the community for their support and our staff for their continued hard work and professionalism.
In response to the challenges of COVID19, our community has actively engaged in the tutoring program with more than 300 students being offered tutoring support by a team of 13 tutors. Tutors have worked across key areas of the College to provide intervention and support to those students who were negatively impacted by COVID19 lockdowns. Covering areas like, academic intervention, wellbeing and engagement, VCE extension and school reengagement. We are currently planning the engagement strategy for term 3 and look forward to extending the reach of the tutoring program.
Our sports teams have had outstanding success this term, with our Year 8 Boys Football and Girls Netball teams having success at the District levels this week. I would like to congratulate all students that represented the College with pride and tried their best, we are incredibly proud of you all. Sports teams require the support of teachers for training and advice during the competition and staff will often train teams in their own time to ensure success. I would like to recognise and celebrate all staff that have coached a team in 2021, they bring another positive dimension to the school experience for so many students.
This year our Pathways to Success (PTS) Year 10 program has supported over 150 students to access work experience during term 2 and we look forward to supporting students in term 3 to again access work experience. These opportunities are fundamental to building a students knowledge, understanding and engagement for work. I am consistently impressed with the positive feedback that comes from employers about the work ethic, commitment and adaptability of our students when in the work place, they are wonderful ambassadors for our College and Langwarrin community.
After a disrupted 2020, I am incredibly proud of the transition that our students have made this year, there have been a number of challenges to be overcome. Our 2021 Year 12 cohort, after an impacted Year 11 in 2020, is making great progress with their learning, knowledge and skills to ensure they achieve their pathway to success. As Year 12 students enter the mid year break I encourage them to find time to relax and engage with peers, but balance this with focused revision and planning for the challenges of Term 3. We have all heard the that "hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard", now is the time for Year 12 students to make sure that they are up to date, prepare for assessments and start Term 3 ready.
Finally, I hope that everyone can be kind to themselves during the break and find some time to be grateful and reflective of the things that make you happy. Take care during the break, I look forward to supporting the EMC community to continue to THRIVE in term 3.
Warm Regards,
Kind regards,
Dean King-Principal
