VCAL

It is with great excitement that we commence the 2019 school year in the VCAL program. Over the 2018 holiday break, much work has been completed to create a new and improved VCAL Hub for students to utilise this year. The new space has been designed with applied learning principles in mind and will enable students to collaborate and complete their project work in the most suitable environment.

Holmesglen Excursion

On Friday 1 February, the Year 11 VCAL students took part in an excursion to Holmesglen TAFE where they explored the Moorabbin campus, found the classrooms they would be studying in for their Vocational Education Programs and observed TAFE students at work.

A highlight for our students was seeing the amazing cakes and sweets being created as well as learning about the human powered vehicles created by some of their students.

Enrichment Day

This fortnight saw the first of our VCAL Enrichment Days. Students made their way into the city to undertake an Escape Room challenge. Whilst all teams worked extremely well together, demonstrating resilience and good communication skills, only one team was able to make it out in time! Congratulations to Mia, Beth, Tilly and Helena!!

To conclude the day, students participated in a Scavenger Hunt around the city to demonstrate their ability to use maps and navigational tools.

Next fortnight, students will be learning about  thankyou. (the social enterprise), in preparation for setting up their own VCAL shop.

Structured Workplace Learning

All VCAL students should now have finalised their work placements for the first part of the year.

Placements commenced the week of Monday 4 February. Students finding it difficult to find a placement should speak with Mrs McKail as soon as possible.
