YEAR 5 CAMP REFLECTIONS

In the final week of Term 2, the Year 5 students were lucky enough to go to school camp.

This is a 5 day / 4 night camp. We went to the amazing Camp Coonawarra in Gippsland. It’s an adventure camp on a farm on a large property. There are many activities: giant swing, flying fox, wildlife walk, orienteering, high ropes and low ropes course, climbing wall, maze and much more!

We asked students to recall and write about their camp highlights – please read on:

Camp Coonawarra was such an amazing time for me. From my cabin to all the activities we did. A spectacular highlight that I can think of is my cabin, everyone was so happy, cheerful and all we did was laugh. One of the really fun activities we did was the giant swing. It was extremely scary but so fun! Another thing that was also exiting was the flying fox, as you fly down the wind blows in your hair it, feels like you're flying. I would also like to thank all the teacher, parents and staff that helped us have so much fun at Camp Coonawarra. All the night activities were so lively, and everyone had an amazing time! Overall camp was such a spectacular experience, and I am glad I had the opportunity to go!

I Survived a week at camp Coonawarra farm resort, it was so much fun! From Archery (where I got a bull – eye), the fast-flying fox over the magical greenish – blue lake, to horse riding on Rango the fantastic white horse with black patches! And the Giant swing where I went to the top and I could see the whole camp site. I really enjoyed camp Coonawarra, there were so many activities to do that the days went so quickly. The evenings were made up of night walks, movie night, a campfire and trivia night - all of it was fun as I was with my friends! We also had room inspections, chores such as lunch/dinner duty and having to clean the BBQ area which was not too bad as I was with my friends. Camp Coonawarra gave me lifetime experiences and taught me new skills. THANK YOU to the parent helpers, staff members of Camp Coonawarra and the teachers for a wonderful week.

Camp Coonawarra was amazing it was so much fun and I will tell you my top 2 highlights. I really like the giant swing. For this we were put on a fabric harness connected to three strong ropes, one with the string hanging down. My group would grab a rope and it would pull me up. I loved when I hit the top and pulled the tiny string releasing me to make me fly. I loved the feeling of the wind in my hair and my tummy fluttering like butterflies in the wind! My second highlight is trivia night. I could not believe it when my group won! I think the hardest question what was the one about the opposing team for Scott Morrison. My favorite question is the Harry Potter question where we had to name all eight books written by JK Rowling. Luckily, we’d read harry potter and knew them well. camp was the best week ever and I learned so much!

Camp Coonawarra was so much fun! My 2 favourite activities were giant swing and flying fox because I like the thrill it gives you. I also like horse riding because you don’t get to ride a horse everyday. The horse I got was called Cookie and she was white and only 4 years old. The movie and trivia night were super fun because it was nice to do something with the school group at night other than sit in our cabins. The wildlife walk was also really cool because we saw lots of cool animals and creatures but they were scared of us. My cabin was always awake super early ready for a new fun day. On the bus I sat next to all my friends and we were always at the back of the bus. I recommend all schools go to camp Coonawarra!

Camp Coonawarra was so much fun! I loved everything about it, the activities, the scene, the cabins. But I'm going to talk about my favourite activity, horse riding. I loved it so much, especially the horses themselves! There were heaps of them, but the one I got was my favourite. Her name was Lily, and she was white with an amazing matching mane. Once we were all on a horse, we rode along this narrow path between trees, it was starting to feel more like we were in the country! We had been on this path before, whilst on our nature walk the previous day. The brown, muddy path was filled with puddles, so we did our best to avoid them. It is a different experience riding a horse, you feel taller, and not to mention that you have to have a strong torso, otherwise your head would be nodding like crazy! Everything was amazing, and thanks to Coonawarra, I rode a horse for the very first time! When you go, I can promise you will have the time of your life!

Dear Camp Coonawarra,

I enjoyed camp so much, thanks to you!

My personal favorite was the flying fox and horse riding. I really enjoyed seeing the lake from a birds-eye-view angle, it gave me a new perspective of the lake. It wasn’t just a huge puddle, but a huge home for many! There were weeds, ducks and plants. But I think I really scared one duck, who just stared at me and paddled right off in the other direction.

I also really loved riding the beautiful stallion, Puzzle, the gentle giant who has a caramel coat and white puzzle pieces scattered on his body. His hip would wiggle left, right, left, and right.

The cabins were also AMAZING! They were so comfortable, but is the toilet in Cabin 8 meant to start making hair dryer noises? It was scary. Our cabin had to make an agreement not to use the toilets after lights off. And the teachers were right. I became great friends with the other people in my cabin and we had a blast!

Camp Coonawarra was so much fun! It was so cool being with your friends and doing awesome activity's. Coonawarra is a beautiful place there was so much nature around us, as well as animals wondering around the campsite. The activities were so cool there was day activities and night activities. Some of my favorite activities were giant swing, zip line, horse riding and the night walk, having the staff there to help out with the activities was so fun. The staff were so friendly and nice. If I had a chance to go back, I would defiantly take it!

Camp Coonawarra was one of the best times I have ever had. My favourite activity was definitely the giant swing. It was extremely scary, but it was really nice seeing a view of the whole camp. If I looked down, I would get scared so I tried to not look down but if I had to, I would just close my eyes. My second favourite activities were the flying fox and orienteering. I really enjoyed the flying fox because when you went down you could feel the wind crashing on to you. Orienteering was incredible. Me and Adele went and looked for the blue letters. We finished way too quick, so we were allowed to walk around until the activity was over. We were walking up a muddy hill, but I slipped and got really dirty. It was really fun. I had 8 people in my cabin, and we all got along really well I was so happy with who was in my cabin. Overall camp was a magnificent experience and I am so happy I could go!

Camp Coonawarra was amazing! It was so much fun because we got to be with friends all week. But my top three favorite things we did was 1. the giant swing because we went up really high then we had to pull a piece of string and then that would detach your harness and you would drop and swing. 2. the night walk because we were in the bush at night and we could hear all sorts of animals and it was really relaxing also we were with our friends. 3.the flying fox because we had to walk up a great big hill were there was a lot of nature, then we had to get attached to a harness and then on the flying fox. Then we would go across the lake and the teacher at the bottom would catch us it was so much fun! Thank so much Coonawarra staff!

Camp Coonawarra was amazing! I didn’t think it would be that good! The giant swing was awesome, it was so high!

There were Bison and Kugar,

Lily and Sugar.

Naughty horse Puzzle,

He didn’t nuzzle.

We took them for a ride,

Well, we tried.

Kugar kept stopping,

Puzzle kept dropping.

Bison was fine,

But I wish he was mine.

Dear camp Coonawarra,I had an amazing time there! First of all I have to say thanks to the staff, the parents and the teachers. Without these people I think I wouldn’t have had such a great time.Everything I did, ate and played was just awesome. Two of my favourite activities are the flying fox and the climbing wall.I liked the flying fox because I could see the huge lake from birds eye view, how the breeze brushed through my hair gently, and how it felt scary but in a good way. But once I was near the end, I wished it could be longer but that meant the walk back up would be longer as well.Secondly, I like the climbing wall because I got to pull people up. When it was my turn once, l was near the middle when I felt that I was flying up! Turns out it was just the other people in my group pulling too fast.Going to camp helped me make a few new friends. Camp Coonawarra is a place I will never forget.

Camp Coonawarra was much more fun than I expected! There were so many amazingly fun activities I couldn’t even count. The Giant swing was more than a fabulous experience for me. For this activity, we got to go two times thanks to our small group F. Around the property, nature filled the area, lush green grass, and a sweet, clean view of the entire lake below. The nature and fresh air were definitely something that improved our experience at camp Coonawarra. The Giant swing was absolutely terrifying, but that was the special ingredient to make it seem like a once-in a life time experience. Another absolute appreciation was that if you get your friends to be with you in a cabin, you just won a lottery. But it doesn’t just matter like that, sleeping for 4 nights together with friends or classmates is something you wouldn’t ever want to miss. My favourite night was the movie night, we all brought our sleeping bags and snuggled in the movie room where we watched the movie with friends, mates and teachers! I really enjoyed this night as a comedy movie suited up our sleep. Camp Coonawarra was so much more than just a normal camp, it’s a time to make or power up your friendship, have some real breaks and breathe in the fresh air. It’ll be the best thing ever. I learnt so much even while on a break or in my words, a true holiday.

Dear Camp Coonawarra,

I wanted to say thank you so much for your help and guidance during our time at Coonawarra. I would like to say a special thanks to Gary, for making us breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and desert. My personal favourite activities were the giant swing, flying fox and riding Chille (my horse’s name). I really enjoyed the PG movie night, the campfire, the wildlife walk and the trivia night. I had so much fun with the people in my cabin and even met new people.

I’m so grateful that we were able to go!
