Week 10 Term 2

Dear Parents and Carers,

As the term draws to a close I extend my thanks to all in our community for your ongoing support of our children throughout the term. This term has once again not been without its COVID-19 challenges. While we have been required to learn remotely for a short time and to postpone a number of school events, we remain safe and healthy. During the school holiday break, we hope all of us will remain safe and well. We look forward to the safe return of all in our community in Term 3.

A special thank you to all parents and carers for engaging with the parent teacher conversations last week. Reports are written for parents so they know how their child is progressing with their learning.

We would like to receive some feedback about St Fidelis’ reports and parent teacher conversations in order to gain insights with what is effective and areas for improvement.

We would appreciate it if you could take 5 minutes to complete this short survey. The information received will be analyzed and discussed as a leadership and staff in order in improve practices and processes. The survey will close on Friday June 25. Thank you.

Farewell Tania Fragopoulos

Ms Tania
Ms Tania

Ms Tania Fragopoulos is finishing up at St Fidelis as the end of Term 2. Tania returned from maternity leave this year to job share with Michelle Casamento in Year 5/6 for two days but has made the decision to remain home to care for her child. On behalf of all the community, I wish her all the best. She will be truly missed by everyone.

I have appointed Ms Cherrie Arnold, an experienced Year 5/6 teacher to replace Ms Tania for Term 3 and Term 4. Ms Arnold has spent three days with her class to ensure a smooth transition. We welcome Ms Arnold to St Fidelis Community who officially begins in Term 3 and hope she has an enjoyable experience at our school.

Year 3 Reconciliation Faith Family Night Workshop – Thursday July 15 -7:00pm

At St Fidelis, we acknowledge that parents are the first teachers of faith to their children.

Families can grow into their faith and assist their children into learning to love Jesus Christ in many ways. It is within the family where children are raised and formed as human beings.

Some ways parents are assisted in raising their children in the Catholic faith, is through being part of the local Catholic Parish and school communities. Some of the most significant times of faith formation occur during the preparation of the children for the Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation. These highpoints offer opportunities for living and celebrating the Catholic faith.

At St Fidelis, we offer parent workshops and Faith Formation for the following:

Foundation:  Parent & Child Faith Formation Workshop

Year 3:  Reconciliation: Parent & Child Faith Formation Workshop

Year 4:  First Eucharist: Parent & Child Faith Formation Workshop

Year 6:  Confirmation: Parent & Child Faith Formation Workshop

Parents and their child in Year 3 are invited to attend Reconciliation Faith Formation workshop. Sister Helen Carboon, a Presentation Sister, will facilitate this workshop. This workshop will take place in the school hall on Thursday, July 15th at 7pm. The workshop will run for one hour.  At this stage, due to COVID restrictions, we can allow only one parent and the child to attend.

First Eucharist Update:

As mentioned in yesterday's letter on our SkoolBag App, First Eucharist has been rescheduled for August 7th at 2:00pm or 4:00pm. Please make a booking using the school interview portal www.schoolinterviews.com.au and use the code cqvuc.

Year 5/6 Camp

Our Year Five/Six students are off to Camp this week. The camp is located in Lancefield. The students will be away from Wednesday 23 to Friday 25. There are many benefits of providing our students with attending school camps.

Some such benefits include:

Social Skills: strengthen established relationships with their peers and teachers and develop new ones. Team cooperation such as clean cabins, team building exercises on the low ropes course, personal challenges canoeing etc.

Independence Skills: For some children school camp may be their first time away from home where they have to remember to brush their teeth, organize their own clothes etc. Camp provides an opportunity for the children to take care of themselves.

Team Building: Children will often be expected to take on leadership roles and work together as a team to encourage positive decision-making.

Encouragement of Physical fitness: During camp, children will be exposed to a variety of experiences. These experiences are active and facilitate learning in a variety of forms, providing a greater awareness of skills and capabilities that may be new for many.

A big thank to all the teachers attending and to Michael Jennings who has spent hours organizing for this camp.

Term Two Concludes

Term 2 concludes for Foundation to Year 4 students this coming Friday, 25 June at 1:00pm.

Food Sharing

Families are reminded that children are not permitted to share food. Under current COVID-19, restrictions we request the parents do not send lollies etc. for birthdays at this time. Please see attached MACS (Melbourne Archdiocese of Catholic Schools) School Anaphylaxis Policy.
