Parent – Teacher – Student Conferences

Thank you to all of the families who attended our first remote Year 10 – 12 Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences on Thursday last week. It was great to see so many parents and students discussing learning and strategies to maximise progress. As we have said before, parent engagement in student learning has a significant positive impact on student success.

We now look forward to our Year 7 – 9 Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences which are scheduled for 2.00 pm – 8.00 pm on Wednesday 16 September. Bookings on Parent Teacher Online (PTO) will open on Tuesday 8 September and close on Tuesday 15 September at 3.00 pm. Details will be sent out to all families via Operoo and SEQTA Message.

Year 9 2021

The Year 8s will soon select their Year 9 elective subjects for next year. Prior to this, there will be a Year 9 Program 2021 Parent and Student Information Evening on 7 September at 7.00 pm. This information evening will provide parents with an overview of the Year 9 Program at Marian College, including the City Camp and the Unplugged Program. It will also cover the elective subjects and the selection process. Letters outlining these details have been sent via Operoo and the Year 9 Program 2021 Handbook will be available on SEQTA Learn and Engage before the evening.

VCE Trial Examinations and the GAT

The VCE Trial Examinations will provide certain essential, realistic examination practice for students in their Unit 3/4 subjects, in what has been a very uncertain year. As communicated in the VCE expectations letter, Marian College Trial Examinations are compulsory for all students enrolled in a scored Unit 3/4 Study.

These examinations were scheduled for the second week of the forthcoming holidays. However, uncertainty about our return to school and other factors have meant that these trial exams have been postponed. They will instead, all going to plan, be held in Term 4. We are finalising the schedule now and this will then be communicated to all students and their families.

The General Achievement Test (GAT) is scheduled for Wednesday 7 October and again all students studying a scored Unit 3/4 Study are required to complete this important assessment. The students have commenced a planned program of preparation and practice for the GAT.

We are proud of our Unit 3/4 students and the way they have continued to focus on preparing for the GAT, Trial Examinations and the final VCAA Examinations in spite of the challenges and uncertainties thrown at them this year.
