Gardening - Aviva

This term in gardening we have been working in our Nature Journals and exploring our local flowers and birds. We also became familiar with some of our local threatened species as part of National Threatened Species Day on Sept 7th. With our walks and nature journals we have been tuning into the changing of the seasons, the yellow of wattle and the nesting of birds.

Our onsite children have been doing a good job keeping the gardens happy at school, we even laid some bricks as part of our composting station with Doug (who is an expert of such things!). We pulled up a beautiful bunch of radishes and lots and lots of parsley!

Thanks to everyone who turned up for the TPS launch of my new children's book, The Forest in the Tree: How Fungi Shapes the World. On Saturday 12th September from 9:30-11am, we have a free full reading public book launch, so please join us!! We also have a special guest mycologist for all your fungi questions!! RSVP at the link below.

VACCA CUPPA

This term we have held two morning teas for culture to support the valuable work that VACCA does to support Aboriginal children and families.  We held a morning tea for our TPS staff and our Social Committee held one for our parents/carers.

It was lovely to see everyone who participated have a cuppa and yarn over zoom when we can’t be together in the same room we can still connect online.

Together we have raised over $1000 donated to VACCA.

Literacy and Numeracy Week

This week we have celebrated literacy and numeracy week with fun activities and learning tasks in our classrooms online.  We have also hosted three story times

  1. Aviva’s book launch - The Forest in the Tree
  2. Aunty Terri story time for Indigenous Literacy Day
  3. Trace Bella reading The Heart in the Bubble

We had over 120 families at each event and really enjoyed sharing these books with our community.

Aviva has another book launch event on Saturday September 12th 9.30am

Letter from Eleanor to Aviva

Hi Aviva
I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY LOVED your book and I am Very Excited to listen to the whole book on Saturday or maybe even buy a book for ourselves!
We have some of your books already though and I think we might have almost every book (except that one of course)!

By the way a really good movie/ documentary to watch is Fantastic Fungi. And it tells you all about the mycelium and the history of mushrooms ( I'm pretty sure)!
In the last holidays we went down to our farm and went to a pine forest. When we were at the pine forest we saw some pine mushrooms and they were an orange colour.
