Celebrating Student Learning

We are incredibly proud of our students for their enthusiastic, resilient return to school. We are so happy to share these wonderful pictures with you!

Chloe - Author, Illustrator and Publisher

During Remote Learning, Chloe wrote an incredible picture story book titled 'The Fairy Tale Time'.  It is an amazing adventure in a magical land, and the quality of writing and illustrations are outstanding.

Chloe had the book professional published and had donated a copy for our school library. Please keep an eye out for it in the library, I am sure you will enjoy it.

Foundation W found a quiet spot for some mindfulness - listening to the birds and our own breathing.

Foundation also spoke about Gratitude. They built playdough models of something they were grateful for and wrote letters of gratitude.

Grade 3 are thrilled to be back in the garden with Kelly!

Grade 4 shared with peers to mark the start of their unit on 'Creativity'

Some amazing Grade 3 writing:

THE DRAGON’S FIGHT

A dragon swooped down from the tree tops and blew red and orange flames on the surprised citizens of the city. The flame was so powerful it pierced the strongest metal on earth and burned wood to splinters. The dragon was a shade of dark green and had wings as big as houses. Its eyes were bright red that had an evil look and its teeth were as sharp as swords.

Everyone in the city screamed and ran away from the dragon. Even the brave firefighters and police! The city was now in ruins. Skyscrapers fell, killing heaps of people but then, out of the sky flew another dragon. The new dragon’s blue scales glowed in the sun and its head was a nice crimson with light green eyes. Its wings flapped gently as it glided through the sky. If you looked at the dragon you would instantly think that it wasn’t evil, it was good and there to defeat the bad dragon. Who would win?

The dark green dragon lashed out with its claws drawing blood on the blue dragon's chest. The blood poured out like rain but the blue dragon kept fighting. The blue dragon blew fierce flames on the green dragon causing some of its scales to catch fire and turn brown. The green dragon roared out in pain, however it stayed flying. They kept fighting until sunset when the green dragon used its tail to whack the blue dragon into a powerline making it snap in half, causing a blackout. Night came and the city was pitch black. The green dragon was practically invisible because of its green scales. The blue dragon however was shimmering  in the moonlight with its blue scales glowing really bright. The fight was not going well for the blue dragon for it was trying to hit an invisible target. The green dragon was perched on top of a tall building that had not fallen down. It was looking for the blue dragon who he had just found. The green dragon swooped down to kill the blue dragon when the blue dragon randomly swiped with its paw accidentally hitting the green dragon and dislocating its wings. The green dragon howled in agony and ran away never to be seen again. The humans cheered for the blue dragon as it flew up into the night sky as beautiful as ever with its scales shining like always.

Sustainability Competition

Kalinda’s Final Submissions for the Arts-Based Sustainability Competition!

Many students in grade 3-6 have been busily preparing, designing and creating their final submissions for Eastern Alliance for Sustainable Learning (EASL) Arts-Based Sustainability Competition.

The theme was I am Water! and it called for students to get creative about sustainability issues surrounding water. Many came forward with some great ideas in speaking, drama, art, writing or creating memes. The below submissions are 3 students from Kalinda who entered in the competition.

We think all of their submissions are amazing and clearly explain sustainability issues surrounding water in great depth! I am so proud of each of the students for participating in this competition and I wish them all the best for success.

Congratulations, Claire, Sinead and Ashlee on completing some fantastic, thought provoking work.

A special thank you to Mrs Shaw for supporting students' creative ideas.

Congratulations again, Miss Claire Todeschini (Grade 1 teacher and Sustainability Leader).
