Myrniong - ELC to Yr6

Student Return and Workload Demands

Junior School students have returned to face to face learning with great vigour and solid application.  Their teachers have commenced Term Four units of work and are looking forward to a rewarding and productive 10 weeks.  As a staff, we are confident that the work delivered during RLP-1 and RLP-2 was robust and linked to curriculum outcomes.  Whilst revision is a vital component of good teaching, staff will not be reteaching content from RLP-1 and RLP-2.  We will continue with the units planned for Term Four and conduct our scheduled Semester Two summative assessments.  These assessments will commence tomorrow with Years Two to Six students sitting the ICAS REACH English paper.  Next Wednesday, students will sit the ICAS REACH Spelling paper.  All students will also complete a Prep to Year Six standardised writing task in the next three weeks.  In Week Seven, staff will administer the PAT online assessments in Mathematics, English, Spelling and Grammar/Punctuation.  These important online assessments will allow staff to track the progress of their students.  We are aware our students will need some transition time to adequately adjust to learning back at school.  Parents can be rest assured cognitive load and pastoral care are front of mind in our Junior School classrooms.

Book Week - October 17th to 23rd

Next week is Book Week.  The Junior School will host a virtual incursion from ‘Books to Life’, who will present a dramatisation of ‘Hello Lighthouse’ by Sophie Blackwell.  This picture fiction text is a short-listed book in the Children’s Book Council of Australia awards.  Our annual ‘Dress Up’ day will be held on Thursday, October 22nd.  Unfortunately, under the current restrictions, parents will not be able to attend the lunchtime parade.  We will take plenty of photographs and post these on College’s social media pages.

Term Four Confirmed Dates

In this fluid space we call 2020, we are reviewing events and confirming dates on a weekly basis.

*Cross Country - Thursday, October 29th.  Our final House competition of 2020 will be run at Parklands Golf Course on Thursday, October 29th.  The age groups will be staggered from 9.30 am to 10.30 am.  Unfortunately parents won’t be able to be present this year. We will take plenty of photographs and share these on the College social media pages. Age Champions and the winning House will be presented at an outdoor Assembly on Friday, October 29th.

*Our Year Six students will be heading to the Southern Grampians for a two-day camp on Monday 9th November and Tuesday 10th November.  We are very conscious that the final year of primary school is an important rite of passage for our Year Six cohort.  Easing regional restrictions has meant an opportunity has become available to take them off site for a camp experience.

*Jump Rope for Heart will be held on Friday 20th November.  This annual event is a fundraiser for the Heart Foundation.  It will be an opportunity for our Year Six students to lead.

Reminder

Students who arrive at Myrniong before 8.30am must attend Before School Care for which a booking is required.
