From the Principal

Dear Parents & Carers

Congratulations on making it through this term of Remote Learning!

Well done to all our students and their families who have engaged in, or supported, remote learning for the past ten weeks, maintaining focus and a positive spirit (at least, most of the time!).  We are very grateful to all families who have supported the school in our efforts to cater for students during this period of Remote Learning. At times, it has taken grit and required individuals to dig deep and keep going. It has required a sense of humour too, and regular self-reminders, that while challenging, there are many in tougher positions.

Thank you also to our amazing staff who have demonstrated flexibility and resourcefulness to get through this in the best way possible, continually coming up with new ways to support student learning and maintain connections. Mostly, we are grateful for our delightful students, who, at times have lost interest and motivation, yet usually pushed through this and have achieved growth despite this totally new and non-preferred way of learning.

We look forward to Week Two next term when we can welcome back our Prep, Year One and Year Two students on site, back into regular classroom learning. We hope that our Year 3 - 6 students will be permitted to return to school in the following weeks.  Queen of Peace will be placing considerable resources into supporting students when they return to school.

Please note that health and safety protocols will remain in place. Should there be any change in protocols, such as the drop off and pick up arrangements we put in place last term, these will be communicated to families. Otherwise, please continue to adhere to the regulations for the safety and wellbeing of all.

Term 4 Arrangements

Term 4 Week 1: Monday 5 – Friday 9 October

Remote learning will continue for all Queen of Peace students.

Term 4 Week 2: Monday 12 October

Students in Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 return to onsite learning at Queen of Peace on Monday 12 October.  Pick up time will be 3:15pm for Preps and their siblings (2:45pm on Mondays) and 3:30pm for Year 1 and Year 2 (3pm on Mondays).

Students from Grade 3 to Year 6 at Queen of Peace will continue with remote and flexible learning. A date for the return of these year levels to face-to-face learning will be subject to further health advice.

Further information regarding Term 4 will be shared with the wider community as it is received. We thank you for your continued support and partnership in 2020.

Remote Learning Surveys

The period of remote learning has been a challenging time for us all, but despite the major disruptions to normal activities, there will be many valuable lessons derived from this period that we as a school, and the system, wish to take forward.

Below is a link to an optional survey in order to help capture the learnings from the remote learning period.

The surveys are designed to be a quick capture of learnings while the experience is fresh, and are not designed to capture every aspect of schooling during the lockdown period. Your feedback will be valuable in learning from the experience and improving education outcomes.  Here is the link to the survey. It is expected the survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete:

Thank you for taking the time to contribute to our learnings as a school and education system.

Student On Site Attendance Term Four

I am assuming that week one, Monday 5 October, next term will involve similar arrangements for families' remote and on site learning. Please email Michael mozbun@qopaltonameadows.catholic.edu.au if you are a permitted worker and your child requires supervision, ideally by next week so staffing can be arranged.

The second week commencing Monday 12 October will look very different. Our Prep, Year One and Year Two students will all be joining us in classrooms!

There may also be some changes to family work situations. I would appreciate all parents sending me an email as soon as you know whether your children in Years 3 - 6 will be required to attend on site from Monday 12 October. As you can imagine, we need to ensure we have the appropriate number of staff both onsite and available to facilitate Remote Learning for students.

We wish all families a relaxing holiday.

Warm regards

Darren Gibbons
