Principal's Report

August 2020

I want to take this opportunity to thank our school community - staff, students and families - for the swift response to the government’s Stay at Home Directions.  While these times are challenging for us all, working together will ensure a positive outcome.

Remote teaching and learning has presented many opportunities for our teachers to take a deep dive into formative assessment and differentiation that will enhance our practice and impact student outcomes now and into the future. The learning opportunities for students during this time have been bountiful, far beyond what we could have imagined at the beginning of the year.

While this year has been different and presented moments of challenge, we have ensured that we have in place a strong wellbeing support framework, maintained a focus on doing the best we can with what we have and continued to celebrate the milestones that mark the transitions of students through school.

The semester one awards ceremony is usually held this time of the year. We will be acknowledging student achievement and effort through personal contact with students and their families and via our social media platforms. Congratulations to all of those students. Last week saw our Year 7’s celebrate their first 100 days of secondary school and they will be receiving something special soon. Every student in the school has been sent a message from all of us here at Greensborough College, sprinkled with some inspiration and a message to stay safe. We hope that students were excited to receive their own mail.

As the Year 12’s head towards the end of the year we have plans in place for a range of activities, virtual and live, to celebrate this rite of passage.

While many of us have exhausted our Netflix and Stan subscriptions you may be interested in some excellent educational webinars we have been promoting. Michael Carr-Gregg’s webinar “Managing the Coronacoaster – Tips for building resilient families in the coronavirus era.” Is a must see.  Keep an eye out in this newsletter and on our Facebook for links to other terrific resources.

In this newsletter you will see a letter to the school community that has also been dropped into local letterboxes, describing the building project currently occurring at school. Please read the letter and contact us if you have any queries or feedback.
