Keeping Creative with the Art Club

With the new restrictions and Stage 4 lockdown measures, it’s more important now than ever to stay connected and take care of ourselves. Even students in a school full of academics need to let off steam occasionally and for many of us, making art is a fun and relaxing way to do just that! The NHS Art Club was formed with the goal of creating a positive space for students to work creatively alongside like-minded peers, share their artworks and challenge themselves to try new things.

Even though we’ve haven’t yet been able to operate in the same physical space due to obvious reasons, the sense of community that is already emerging within the group is inspiring! The club has been operating asynchronously online for a few weeks now, but the members’ participation, talent and support for each other has been great to see. A new creative challenge is released every Tuesday, and the members have a week to share their own takes on the prompt. Some of the activities we’ve taken on include designing a character inspired by emojis, monochrome drawings, and creating visuals for our favourite music. The members made the most of the creative opportunities in these challenges to make amazing work- some of which you’ll see below- that may have taken them out of their comfort zone and encouraged them to think outside the box. We’ve been having a great time sharing our work, interests and techniques with each other.

Once we’re all back in the same space again, we’d love to experiment with a range of different activities and media, work toward organising larger creative projects and possibly even collaborate with other student groups to contribute to fundraising and school events. Until then, we’ll keep making the most of what we’ve got and keep quarantine creative! (Artworks by Lisa Lei, Aisha Uy and Nuo Liu in order)
