What's Happening at OLA

Pre-Primary

Last Thursday, Pre-Primary ventured to the Brownes Dairy Factory as we have been looking at production of food from animals. We had the opportunity to observe the last line of assembly for milk and yoghurt. Imagine our surprise when we saw the robotic arm start automatically to pack orders for different shops. Technology is amazing!

During the visit, we put our Science inquiry skills to the test by doing a blind tasting of different yoghurts. We did not like the taste of the plain yoghurt! At the end of the session, we got to see a dairy cow being milked and some of us were lucky enough to give her a pat. We even received a bottle of flavoured milk and a goodie bag to take home with us.

Here are some photos from our day!

Year 2

The Year Twos have had an exciting time lately. The Junior Cross Country was on Wednesday 13 June at Waverley Reserve.  What a great effort by our Pre-Primary to Year 2 children.  We hope that those who attended Mrs Stewart’s Running Club felt that all the effort was worth it.  Well done to all the participants and thanks to all the parents who came along to support us. We have included some photos of participants and winners for your enjoyment.

The Liturgy of the Word on Thursday 14 June was a beautiful celebration of what happened at the Last Supper. The presentation of the symbols was very reverent, the readers read so confidently and clearly, and all the Year Twos participated in the echo pantomime really well. Please enjoy the photos we have included.

Year 4

Over the last two weeks, Year 4 have been preparing to receive Jesus for the first time, in the Sacrament of Eucharist. To receive Jesus, we need to have a pure heart and pure conscience. To do this, we need to ask God for forgiveness. With Father Ken’s help, we participated in Reconciliation on the Thursday before our First Holy Communion Masses.

On Saturday 9 and 16 June, the Year 4 students along with other Parish candidates celebrated their First Holy Communion in front of their family, friends and the OLA community. Once all the nerves passed, everyone enjoyed this special celebration.

The photos below are a snapshot of how we prepared to receive Jesus.

Year 6

This week in Year 6, the Ten Commandments were our focus during Religion, as we were asked to create a video that taught us how to recall the Commandments through images. Each Commandment required a symbol that enabled the viewer to remember the image and link it to the specific Commandment. Mr D captured a beautiful image, which showed us how amazing God is.

In English, we have been working on our narratives both individually and in pairs. We have created stories with titles such as; ‘I Won’t Let My Ideas Get Crushed’ and ‘Stone Nightmare’.

Mr D introduced us to an antique machine, as Miss Figueira would call it, called an ‘overhead projector’. We have chosen images of our favourite cartoon characters to enlarge on a large piece of card.

This week, we also chose a country to follow in the Russian World Cup. Unfortunately, Italy and Ireland weren't included much to Mr D and Mr McIntyre's horror. We have had a great week!
