Assistant Principals' Report

Student Led Conferences: 26 August
Student Led Conferences will take place on Wednesday, 26 August, giving parents and guardians the opportunity to learn about their child’s progress, share their achievements and explore opportunities for improvement.
The conferences will be run remotely through Microsoft Teams and bookings can be made through Compass until 9pm on 23 August. Compass can guide you through the booking process via the ‘Show me how to book’ button.
How to prepare
Please check flagged learning tasks and discuss bookings with your child so that they are aware of the schedule.
What to expect
- The teacher will call your child on Microsoft Teams at the designated time. Families should be ready to respond.
- Your child will start and lead the conversation with their subject teacher.
- Your child will discuss their successes and challenges.
- Your child should have their version of the ‘2020 My Learning Portfolio’ Powerpoint saved to their desktop AND uploaded to the Compass Learning Task with the same name.
- Teachers will provide feedback and strategies to assist your child with their learning.
- Your child should make a note of comments.
- In their first DiSCovery lesson after the conferences, students will be finalising and summarising their learning goals for each subject and discussing their personal and social capabilities with their DiSCovery teacher.
- Meetings are scheduled to run for eight minutes and students must be ready to finish on time. If families require further discussion, this can be arranged independently with the teacher though email.
How can I support the process?
- Look at grades and comments on flagged Compass Learning Tasks.
- Ask questions of your child if you do not understand something.
- Review your child’s ‘2020 My Learning Portfolio’.
- Let your child discuss their improvement strategies with you. Encourage them to reach their goals for each subject.
- After your child has led you through the conference, the teacher will answer any questions you may have.
Do you need an interpreter?
You can book interpreters when you make teacher bookings on Compass.
Thank you for your cooperation and we look forward to seeing families on Wednesday, 26 August.
