ISO 2.0 hasn't stopped Year 9 Student Berry for being a High Achiever
By Berry, 9E
I am part of an organisation called the Australian Air League and I recently received my photography badge.
Although having to do parades and education sessions online was not ideal, I am glad that I was still able to complete the assessment.
I was required to take 15 photos of items in my house and around my neighbourhood on certain topics, and use techniques we learnt in theory lessons.
The assessment was based on 80% theory and 20% practical. I had to go around my neighbourhood to explore things that might be helpful for this test.
Please see some of the images I took in the gallery above.
Harry B Shares His Top Study Tips
Hi fellow international students,
My name is Harry B and I am a Vietnamese international student at Doncaster Secondary College since October 2019.
Recently, I was grateful to receive Academic Excellence awards in four subjects: Accounting, Business Management, EAL and Mathematical Specialist. Therefore, I wanted to share some of my study tips.
First of all, we all know that the language barrier is the biggest problem. My tip is to read the lesson content before every lesson and write down any new words. Don't be scared to ask your teacher for the meaning of any words you don't know, or even re-visit parts you didn't understand.
My English skills were not that good when I came to Australia but I have tried to speak more with locals, and asked them to correct my pronunciation. Believe me, your English will improve each day if you follow my tip!
People ask me how I memorise what I need to know in order to excel at studying. The answer is always to study hard. It's wrong to have a fixed mindset that you were born with a certain ability to learn and there's nothing you can do to develop it. You never know how good you are until you try hard to achieve your best. Find a source of motivation. This can be focusing on what you want to achieve, who you want to become, or the feeling of winning.
Good luck to all of you with your study and hope I will see more international students receive Academic Excellence in the future.
After School Support Sessions
By Souloung Lee, International Student Program Education Support
Year 11 and Year 12 Remote Learning
As Year 11 and Year 12 students have returned to remote learning, the International Support Team arranged immediate support by expanding After School Support Session from Monday to Friday to include these year levels.
One-hour sessions run on Thursdays for Year 11s and Fridays for Year 12. This gives students the opportunity to share their experiences and seek support where needed.
Remote Learning Study
International students across all year levels have the opportunity to share their experiences and seek help during the After School Support Session.
The International Support Team (ISP) have spoken and listened to each student during the sessions to ensure they are receiving adequate assistance during the remote learning period.
In addition, the ISP team has followed up any issues identified by teachers, to make sure students will perform at their best.
Art in Isolation Exhibition
Although this exhibition has been postponed, we are still encouraging students to submit photographs. This is a good opportunity for students to share their creative ideas, develop skills, encourage people to think, and build confidence.
Learning and Wellbeing Survey
To support students’ wellbeing, the ISP team has recommended that students participate in the Doncaster Secondary College International Student Learning and Wellbeing Survey. By completing the survey, the DSC Wellbeing Team will be able to provide the best possible support to our international students.
