Term 3 Week 10 Snapshot

Welcome to Week 10 of Home Learning

Welcome to Week 10. Congratulations for making it to the end of term 3. The Grade Four team would like to offer our sincere thanks to all families for your support and adjusting to learning during the pandemic.  On Wednesday, 16th of September, the Grade Four team have a planning day to help prepare for Term 4. There will be a short check in Google Meet on the Wednesday.

Please read the following overview of the learning tasks for Week 10 of Term 3. The daily schedule, with additional instructions and resources, will continue to be posted on Google Classroom the night before each day of learning.

If your child has completed the day's tasks, they may be interested in completing one of these optional tasks. These tasks are open-ended, inquiry based and hands-on.

Word Study

Students will continue to practice 30 "codes" of the English language through watching videos uploaded by their class teacher. The "bootcamp" process allows students to practice the new skill until it becomes "automatic" in their brains. All students will also complete mini-lessons around Word Study this week.

In Mathematics, students are continuing to explore shapes, symmetry and tessellations. They are also encouraged to play number games or use Mathletics to continue practicing basic number skills.

  • Small group lessons with teachers
  • Recognising that faces of 3D objects use 2D shapes to make up their nets

Unit of Inquiry

This week, students are continuing to explore the unit of inquiry, How We Express Ourselves. Students will inquire into the line of inquiry, 'The forms used to express experiences across cultures.' Students are focusing on the conceptual understanding of form and the related concept of expression.

Tasks for Week 10 include:

  • Interpreting different art forms using a range of reflection questions
  • Using flexible thinking strategies to develop imagination and create art
  • Using Google Slides to share their art and connect with art created by peers
  • Whole Class Virtual Gallery Walk

Wellbeing

Students will participate in Circles discussions as they reflect on how they can use thinking routines to develop new and interesting ideas, which will help them extend their thinking.

This week the students are being invited to create a family wellbeing calendar for the school holidays.  They are being encouraged to think about all the Wellbeing challenges they have participated in during the remote learning period to come up with an activity for each day of the school holidays.  The students can be creative with their ideas and the presentation of their calendar.
