Identity and Mission

Gerard McNulty

It is heartening to see, in the form of the initiatives below, the compassion for others that our community continues to exhibit particularly in these times when we are still in some ways kept at arms-length from the rest of society.

LEGO Collection

Over the last five weeks students have been invited to repurpose their old/new LEGO by donating it.  A group of Year Six Mission Sisters have set up two drop off sites at the College - the Office and LIbrary - for students to unloaded their LEGO.  DOnations will be accepted up until the end of term. The girls will then turn the bricks into packs for young children at a number of charity organisations in Hobart.  One of the highlights of this campaign was Hannah Jager’s determination to get video assistance from ‘The Brickman” to support this wonderful initiative.

Toucan Appeal

It is not too late to drop a couple of cans into a tub, however, the Toucan Appeal concludes at the end of this week.  Secondary Mission Sisters have placed in each classroom tubs for students to donate supplies of food (two cans) for those struggling at present in Hobart.

Operation Christmas Child

An exciting opportunity has presented itself in the form of Operation Christmas Child where students in the Primary school can grab a shoebox and fill it with items for a child somewhere else in the world who may receive nothing at Christmas time this year.

EdSmart communication was sent out to all primary families last week with full details of this initiative. All boxes must be returned by the end of October to ensure they can be delivered in time.

STRIVE card initiative

One of the Year Eight STRIVE initiatives this term has been the making of Christmas and birthday cards for those in aged care facilities. The idea being that in this time of COVID restrictions we may not be able to visit others, however, we can still demonstrate our love and concern for them.  In particular, the birthday cards, are designed for those members of aged care communities without family, to still show them that others are thinking of them.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Jessie Bañez who will be ordained a deacon at the end of the month.  Jessie is a fixture at liturgical celebrations at Mount Carmel, assisting Fr Brian.  Jessie will be ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Hobart in 2021.
