iCreate:  Building and Construction

The storm water pipe installation has finally been completed by the Building and Construction iCreate students. The rectangular wall between the music and dance room that was in need of a revamp, became the perfect space for the execution of the pipe installation. The wall was prepared with a bright red exterior paint. Over fifty pieces of PVC pipe material were then painted in vibrant colours, cut to various sizes on the band saw, and assembled on the wall.

The idea for the work was to create a welcoming relief wall art that students can not only admire, but, offer a place where they can also congregate for lunch.  This is where the secondary stage of the project was developed, where the relief work spills out onto the sleeper timber seats below.

The students worked in all kinds of weather conditions to complete the assemblage of the pipes, piece by piece, held together with galvanized screws. The pipes were overlapped to create a third dimension, particularly when seen from a distance.

Good results in 2018 Victoria Junior Chinese Speech Competition

Two students, Katie Sun and Huiquan Wang, from our college, participated in the 2018 Victoria Chinese Speech Competition at Carey Baptist Grammar School on 11th May. The competition was organised by the CLTAV (Chinese Language Teaching Association in Victoria), which provided a stage for Australian Chinese background speakers to develop a better understanding of Chinese heritage and improve their public speaking skills.

In the Junior Secondary section, Huiquan Wang came fifth, and Katie Sun placed sixth among all candidates in Victoria. Both students did their best to represent Westall and obtained great results in this, their debut in a state language competition.

“We were very pleased by the experience and the outcome for them! Hopefully they could encourage other students to enjoy learning the beautiful language in the future. “Ms Zeng said.
