Year 3 - Year 5 News

Welcome to another edition of 'The Springs'.

This fortnight the students in Years 3, 4 and 5 have been very resilient and taken responsibility with their learning by being flexible around timetable and some teacher changes.  Whilst we always attempt to keep things as consistent as possible; illness, camps and excursions do require a little creativity and flexibility.  Students who can self monitor and self regulate their choices demonstrate greater mature and learning success.  Well done kids!

The weather may be letting us down a little but that didn't stop this crew from their ladybug collection.  It seems to be a new Pakenham Springs craze at the moment.  It was great to see students working together to collect and admire these little, bright and beautiful bugs.  Lots of discussions about returning them to their natural habitat have also occurred.

Our Year 3 students enjoyed a terrific excursion to Bunjil Place and Casey Arc Swimming Pool yesterday which connects to their inquiry unit this term.  With ‘water safety’ and ‘resources in our community’ being the focus, the students have provided me with many highlights of their experience.

Not surprisingly, the inflatable and wave pool were the most popular at Casey Arc, with the 3 storey library and art gallery being the most talked about at Bunjil Place.  With the summer holiday break approaching, it may be a place you would like to visit yourself.  The students also spoke keenly about being able to join and borrow from the library at no cost!

Year 5 students are writing and practising their 2020 leadership speeches that will be presented next week to peers, teachers, our principal Ms Baillie and other members of the leadership team. It is a really exciting time and a fabulous opportunity for them.  No matter the outcome, the experience of writing and presenting a speech to a panel of adults and peers, equals success.

Year 4 have had some very exciting news, they have been selected for skateboarding lessons - FREE of CHARGE!   Stayed tuned to hear all about this in coming weeks.

Until next time,

Jane King
