Year 6
Assistant Principal's Report
We sure have hit the ground running in our Senior School this year!
At Pakenham Springs, we are aiming to help our students develop into responsible and informed members of our local and global community. To do this, we need to teach our students the skills they need to achieve this goal. A new initiative at PSPS this year has been our Senior School Conference, which was held last Friday.
A range of guest speakers were invited to present to our Year 6 students about goal setting, teamwork, resilience and motivation.
We had Cardinia Shire Youth Services speak about the range of services available to young people in the Pakenham Community and the power of giving and receiving compliments.
Aligned Leisure presented a workshop on developing leadership skills and using teamwork to achieve a goal. Some great block towers were built, with our students using verbal and non-verbal communication to build the tallest tower possible.
Goal setting and breaking our big goals down into little chunks was also the topic of our workshop by DELTAR Motivation (our very own Mr Harris)
We invited Mike Spears of Orange Ball Fun (ex-NBL basketballer, coach and motivational speaker) to motivate our students to work hard, keep their eyes on their big picture goals and to 'think before you quit'. Mike was also the referee of our staff v students lunchtime basketball match, which the students took part in after enjoying their sausage sizzle lunch.
Our parents joined us for the end of the day, where we reflected on what we had taken from the day and we thought about how we would apply this new knowledge to make our Year 6 year the best ever!
I was so proud of all our Year 6 students - their participation, positive attitude and insightful reflections truly showed how privileged we are to have such a great group of role models for our school. Feedback from students, staff, parents and all of our presenters was extremely positive, with this event now becoming an annual conference for our Year 6 students.
Have a great week!
