Year 3 - Year 5

Assistant Principal's Report

Middle School News

2019

Firstly,  I’d like to welcome all our new families to Pakenham Springs Primary School.  Across Years 3, 4 and 5, we have a total of ten new families and thirteen new students who have begun with us in 2019.   I am positive that all families have received a very warm welcome and all children are successfully settling into this great school.

The students have begun their new year by building their familiarity with our school’s values and goals.  All classes are developing class mission statements and defining what makes a great learning environment.   At Pakenham Springs we pride ourselves on building strong relationships. It was fantastic to see the students giving their thoughts about what makes a great teacher and brainstorming what makes a focused learner.   Research shows that starting the year with clear expectations provides learning success and powerful teacher–student relationships.

As we move into weeks 3 and 4, every classroom is engaging in five hours of Reading, five hours of Writing and five hours of Numeracy as per the Victorian Curriculum requirements.  I have been super impressed with the enthusiasm of the students in Years 3, 4 and 5 and the maturity shown across the Middle and Senior School.   2019 is shaping up to be a fantastic year already.

As parents, I encourage you to continue to allocate home reading time.  Reading at home is not just for younger students.   Whether you are reading to your child, listening to your child or your child is independently reading; allocated time that remains consistent over each term will greatly support growth in reading comprehension, vocabulary, predictions and making connections.   All skills that a successful adult reader requires.

Please keep an eye on the website and calendar for the many special events and activities planned over Term 1, 2019.

Kindest Regards

Jane King
