Seeking homestay families

Homestay for our China sister school students
Clifton Hill Primary School will be hosting students from our sister school, Huaibei Experimental Primary School, for 5 days (4 nights) from 5-9 August 2017 (Sunday-Thursday).
We are seeking expressions of interest from families of students in years 3-6 who wish to host two students in their home.
Hosting is a great intercultural learning opportunity for CHPS students, and since many of them will live and work in multicultural environments when they grow up, this gives them a head start on building successful interpersonal relationships with peers from a very different background. Your child does not need to be studying Mandarin or planning to go to China to be a host family.
Each year we have positive feedback from host families (see quotes);Hosting a homestay involves:
- Care of two children in your home – families need to be able to collect the children directly after school and drop them off each morning with your children
- An authentic ‘Melbourne family experience’ – you are not expected to put on an intricate program of activities; integrate them in your family’s life, and show them around your neighbourhood
- Providing a place to sleep – there is no requirement for this to be in separate bedrooms; the children can bunk in with your children or share a room together
- Parents need to have completed a working with children check

(this is simple and easy to do – if we already have a copy of this held at the office you do not need to reapply)
Once we have received some expressions of interest we will provide more detailed information to host families. There are also several families at CHPS that have hosted a number of times that are happy to provide advice and support to first-time hosts. Of course, we happy to answer any questions you might have.
Please email Karen Dileo if you are able to host or with any questions.
