Transition News

Year 7 House Downball Competition is fast approaching. This will be a house based transition activity held during period 4 on the last day of Term 3, Friday 21st of September. Mr Dale Ingleton will be leading the event together with our Freeman house co-ordinator Miss Jessica Friend. We encourage our year 7 students to wear house coloured accessories such as headbands/bandanas/hats/wristbands for the afternoon (from period 4 onwards) and keep an eye on their emails and compass to ensure they are aware of the instructions and set up for the afternoon. We are looking forward to a fun, house spirited way to end the term.

Year 7 2019!!

We met for the first time on Saturday 1st of September our new year 7s for 2019! We held the intake testing which helps us to learn about our incoming students and how we can best support their learning as they transition from grade 6 to year 7. There were mixed emotions of excitement and nervousness in the air- and not just from the students but the parents also as the Grade 6 students begin their journey into secondary schooling. We were really pleased with the turn out and I would like to thank Mr James Barut (Assistant Principal) and Mrs Narelle Meek (Learning Support Co-ordinator) Europa (our very friendly Therapy Dog who calmed the nerves) who all attended and assisted in the running of the day. I would also like to thank Mrs Leah Pritchard (our Director of Admissions) who organised the smooth running of the event, which was an enormous task. Lastly, we are grateful to the families who were able to support their child’s transition into RSC on this day, helping their children at the start of what can be a very challenging but rewarding time.

Contacting Co-ordinators in Junior School

A reminder to families that to ensure the ongoing safety of the College site, it is a requirement that you report to the general office and sign into the Compass Kiosk and await your appointment in the reception area. We request that parents refrain from approaching offices or classes unless this sign in process has been undertaken and the relevant personnel have been notified of your attendance.

It is important to remember that our co-ordination team in the Junior School are teachers as well as house co-ordinators and our day is scheduled with classes we teach, yard duties and staff and faculty meetings as well as supporting students of the junior school. We do welcome your communication and questions; however, we ask that you take this into consideration when contacting us and ensure that your communication is productive and solution focused. The best support to our students can be offered when the College and families are working together. If you wish to get in contact directly with a member of the Junior School team, the best way to contact is via email or telephone on 9870 2002 and our team will aim to get back to you as soon as possible.

Junior School Sport

Kim Watson and Faith Stepniewski, our Junior School Mabo and Jackman co-ordinators spent the day with the year 7 basketball teams last week and came away as victors from the day. It was great to work with our Junior school students in a different way to what we are normally used to and to be able to build connections with our students through sport. It was a great day out and we were proud of how the students conducted themselves whilst representing the College and of course- the flag they brought home!

We congratulate our fearless Frazer house co-ordinator Miss Marissa Lee who on Sunday 9th September won her Division 1 EFL Premiership with the Vermont Eagles Womens AFL team. It was a nail biter until the end where they stole the game in the dying seconds and came away 7 point victors! Well done Miss Lee!

Year 8 News

We congratulated Elizabeth Man Tuang and Jessica Suares as our Term 3 RADAR award recipients as nominated by their peers or teachers. These students were recognised in their efforts to respect diversity through their engagement in year level activities and general kindness shown to others.

Our theme for assemblies was around respect for diversity and breaking down stereotypes. It was an important topic particularly surrounding encouraging some of our students to challenge stereotypes and be the voice of advocacy in standing up for what is right, not just what is the stereotype. Our message from the assembly was “if you see something, say something”. We would encourage your children in Junior School to heed this message in order to stand up for what is right.
