Basketball Club

Last Sunday saw the final round of the tryouts for the Bendigo and USA tours. With a great turn out of registrations from the first round of 56 players, Sunday narrowed it down to 35 players who put everything in to make the cut. Shawn Redhage and his coaches have a tough time making the decision of who they must cut. With their comments, 'there is so much talent here' it is not going to be easy to decide.

The Bendigo Junior Classic is on the Australia Day long weekend where the selected teams from MJBC, will travel to compete against other Under 16 and Under 18 teams from around Australia. Our teams will play 4-6 games, plus finals over the 3-day event.

The USA Tour is a junior basketballer’s dream. This 19-day tour will kick off in Dallas, with training at the Dallas Mavericks Basketball Academy, learning from the NBA's Dallas Mavs.

The tour also includes:

  • Seeing 2-3 NBA games;
  • 1-2 College games and playing as many high school games our teams can play (as well as attending school in the US for a day);
  • Specialized training sessions;
  • A visit to the Dallas Cowboys stadium, and
  • Houston Space Centre;
  • Finally, a visit to Disneyland. WHAT A TRIP!!!

Good luck to all those boys who have tried out. The teams will be released in the coming days.

Mazza Grizzlies

U15's Div3 Mazza Grizzlies after their win last week against Mazza Pacers

Mazza Grizzlies have excellent team spirit, show great teamwork and are very supportive of their teammates. All the boys in the team love playing basketball. They are coached by Mazenod student Blake Lymons. The boys respect, listen and have fun with their coach which is fantastic. Seeing the younger boys interact in a positive environment with an older student coach is a great example for them.
