Futures Wrap Up

This coming Wednesday 13 November will be our last day in our Futures units for the year! It has been a fantastic first year of the program and we are really ending it with a bang.

COLOUR RUN

A few weeks ago, all our Year 9 students played a crucial role in running the Colour Run across P-9. They spent all day in the hot sun throwing colour, helping young students complete the run, cook sausages, run our “carnival” and operate games for other students not participating. I thank all our Year 9 students for the leadership, responsibility and friendliness they showed to all other students in the school on the day. I have never been prouder of a group of students who went above and beyond to try and make the day enjoyable for everybody.

BROOKSIDE SERVICE

Our 9B and 9D students have been participating in various community service activities. They have had visits to and from Wintringham Specialist Aged Care to play games with and interact with our elderly citizens. They have also gathered much needed baby items for St Kilda Mums, and food for families in need.

Last Wednesday, 9D visited St Kilda Mums and participated in a day of volunteering, including building cots, packing “baby bags”, and cleaning old clothes and mattresses to be used by families in need. Members of the class said they had a great time and it was great to give back to the community. This coming Wednesday, 9B will also be travelling to St Kilda Mums to help out for the day.

SEMINAR DAYS

We have a few Seminar Days in the coming weeks to celebrate the end of the Futures Program. On Wednesday 20 November, students will travel to Bazza Park to have a cohort picnic. Please ensure you provide consent for your child to attend this event on Compass.

On Wednesday 27 November, students will travel to the city together as a cohort for a final City Experience rotation. Due to the number of students travelling, the school is unable to provide mykis. Please ensure your child has a valid myki with at least $6 credit to travel into the city that day. Consent is also required for this event on Compass.

CREATE

Finally, if you haven’t already had the chance, I highly recommend visiting the Brookside Live YouTube channel and looking at some of the documentaries the Year 9 students have made this year in the Futures program. The film “Making a Difference” is a great showcase of what our students are doing in the program: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vMmCiQUILw
