Celebrating International Women's Day with the theme #EachforEqual.

14 Year 9 Students attended the SELLEN / Casey Tech morning.

This year addressing gender equality in the gaming industry and IT as well as investigating STEM areas. An address from the Victorian Minister for Youth and Minister for Women, Gabrielle William was well received by our students.

Cosplay, Ally and Caitlin wore amazing handmade outfits and gave a talk about women in gaming, their supporting data was very interesting and our students were surprised and impressed by these ladies.

Later guests joined them at their table and spoke about their experience in the industry they are currently working in, whilst they all enjoyed a lovely array of foods.

The last session students were able to move around mix of STEM hands-on learning sessions.

 

The Young Ada Short Story Prize

The Young Ada Short Story Prize

The Young Ada Short Story Prize is open to 14-18-year-olds who live, study or work in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

Young writers from Melbourne’s western suburbs are invited to write a story about something that matters to them in their world, whether it is love, friendship, discoveries, injustice or loss, for their chance to win $250 and be published in the anthology.

Submissions to the Young Adas close Sunday, 29 March 2020.

ATOM Photo Comp

ATOM Photo Comp

The ATOM Photo Comp is an initiative of Australian Teachers of Media (ATOM). It provides Australian and New Zealand student and adult photographers with the opportunity to submit a folio of three photographs adhering to a theme, and win fantastic prizes in the process.

The theme for the 2020 competition is Fragility.

International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition

The International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition is an international science competition that enables students from all countries to prove their skills and to unleash their creativity in the fields of astronomy and astrophysics.

IAAC gives you the unique opportunity to apply your skills to challenging problems. Participants can receive certificates, awards, cash prizes, and global recognition.

In order to participate in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition, you have to be a high-school or university student. Students from all grades and all countries are invited to participate.

Entries for the qualification round close on Friday, 17 April 2020.

2020 School Poetry and Short Story Writing Competition

2020 School Poetry and Short Story Writing Competition

Entry is open to the 2020 Schools Poetry & Short Story Writing Competition. Students all over Australia are invited to enter their poems or short stories, and battle it out for the great cash prizes on offer.

There is no theme. Entrants are encouraged to let their imaginations run wild and write on any topic and in any style. Students from all grades are welcome to enter – from Kindergarten/Preparatory to Grade 12.

Entry is free and closes on Thursday, 30 April 2020.

ABC Fierce Girls Competition

ABC Fierce Girls Competition

The ABC’s Fierce Girls podcast wants you to tell them about a fierce girl you admire!

They’re looking for stories of adventurous girls, girls with guts and spirit, girls who dare to do things differently.

To enter, write an original story (500-800 words) about an Australian girl or woman that you admire. They could be from your town or city, or anywhere in Australia. They could be famous, or maybe they’re your neighbour! It’s open to all kids in Australia between 7 and 16 years of age (inclusive).

The five best stories will be selected as prize winners. Winners will receive the opportunity to have their story recorded as a podcast and published as an episode of ABC’s Fierce Girls podcast!

ADF GAP Year 2021

The ADF Gap Year program provides an opportunity for young Australians, who have finished Year 12 (or equivalent) and are aged between 17 and 24, to experience military training and lifestyle whilst gaining new skills and pay over their Gap Year.  The life skills and job training that students acquire during their Gap Year experience will be valuable regardless of what career you ultimately undertake.  Gap Year opportunities are available in the Navy, Army and Air Force.
