Meet our College Captains

Mia Clauscen, Social Justice Captain Cranbourne Campus

When did you start your studies at St. Peter’s College?

I started at St. Peter’s College in Year 7. I was extremely nervous as only two other people from my primary school came with me. My nerves quickly disappeared as I made friends, these people are still my closest friends to this day. Everyone at St. Peter’s College were warm and welcoming and made me feel much better.

Tell us about your family?

I’m the oldest in my family, I live with my parents and my younger sister and brother. My Nannie used to live with us as well, but she moved out a couple of years ago. It was a big change as I was so used to having her there. I’m really close with my sister although she can be quite annoying sometimes, I still love her.

Tell us about your other interests?

I love reading, I’m always in the middle of a book and I stay up way too late reading. If I’m not reading, I’m watching TV shows. My absolute favourite is Brooklyn Nine Nine. I’ve watched it all the way through at least five times. Whenever I’m bored, I watch Brooklyn Nine Nine, my obsession with that show is bad.

Year 12 Studies:

This year I’m taking English, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Religion & Society. My focus for this year is Physics and Chemistry as I find those classes the hardest.

Have you already completed any of your VCE Studies prior to this year?

Last year I completed Units 3 & 4 of Psychology. It’s by far my favourite subject and I miss taking the class. Anytime my friends who take Psychology need help, I’m there in an instant. It makes me feel like I’m in the class again. It’s the one subject I suggest to people, I love how everything you learn in Psychology can be applied to your everyday life. After we completed the Sleep Unit in class, I found myself analysing my sleep on multiple occasions.

2020 College Annual Theme

For I am gentle and humble in heart

What does this mean to you?

To me, this means to live humbly and do more for others without directly benefiting from it. Even if you do things for others, you can still get something out of it.

How will you live this statement throughout the year in your role?

As Social Justice Captain, I feel this statement is directly related to my role. Throughout the year, I hope to make a real difference in someone’s life through the programs we have here at St. Peter’s College such as the Breakfast Club.

What are your goals for 2020?

My main goal for 2020 is to enjoy my year. I have a habit of stressing a lot which is something I want to cut down on so I can have a great year.

For yourself in your Captains role?

My goal is to get the Breakfast Club and Social Justice Club fully up and running. I want to make it easier for next years Social Justice Captain to begin their time in the role.

For yourself as a Year 12 student?

I want to work as hard as I can to achieve an ATAR I’m proud of. This is the most important year of school and I want to make it count.

Personally?

I want to stop putting so much pressure on myself. This causes me a lot of unnecessary stress and it’s something that I need to work on.

What would you like your legacy be for St. Peter’s College?

I would like St. Peter’s College to continue working to improve the lives of others that may be less fortunate.

What are your immediate life ambitions and aspirations once you complete your studies at St. Peter’s College?

After I graduate, I’m hoping to study Psychology at University. As I said above, I love Psychology and it’s something I would love to continue in the future.

What are your long term life ambitions and aspirations?

To live a life that I’m happy and proud of. I want to be in the position where I can enjoy everything and live life to the fullest.

In one sentence what would you like to say to your fellow students to convey your pride in your College?

“Be not afraid” to stand up for what you believe is right and help the community around you.

Shruti Naushad, Social Justice Captain Clyde North Campus

When did you start your studies at St. Peter’s College?

I started attending St. Peters in Year 7.

Tell us about your family?

My family consists of my parents, my younger brother who is currently in Year 8 at St. Peter’s College and my puppy, Axl, who I can never seem to stop talking about - needless to say, he is my favourite member of the family.

Tell us about your other interests?

Some of my interests include painting, spending time with friends and watching TV shows (my favourite and most effective form of procrastination).

Year 12 Studies:

The subjects I do include the basics- General Math, English, Religion & Society, Psychology and Legal Studies. My favourite subject without a doubt is Legal Studies because I have always had an interest in it and I love watching crime shows.

Have you already completed any of your VCE Studies prior to this year?

Last year I completed Units 3 & 4 Art, it was a good subject as it allowed me to do a subject that I already did as a hobby. Along with getting the opportunity to visit many art galleries - which I loved. I learned a lot from the subject and it definitely helped me expand my vocabulary.

2020 College Annual Theme

For I am gentle and humble in heart

What does this mean to you?

I think it’s a reflection of how Jesus intended for everyone to be, kind-hearted and treating everyone the way you would like to be treated.

How will you live this statement throughout the year in your role?

Being ‘gentle and humble in heart’ as a College Captain I think is about being a familiar and approachable for everyone. Especially as Social Justice Captain, it is about showing compassion for the various injustices that may be going on and trying to find ways to contribute to rectifying them.

What are your goals for 2020?

My goals for this year is to enjoy my last year at St. Peter’s College and make as many memories as I can before graduating,

For yourself in your Captains role?

I hope to create an impact in the school by implementing new initiatives at school that can continue for years to come. Some of which include revamping the Breakfast Club and working towards restarting volunteer opportunities at St. Vinnies. As well as being the best role model I can be for the younger year levels and inspire them to get involved in more social justice events/ activities.

For yourself as a Year 12 student?

I just hope to do my best this year with my studies and stay focused and motivated throughout the year. As well as welcoming every challenge I may be faced with.

Personally?

I just want this year to be the best version of myself- whether it be in school or my personal life, and to work hard while enjoying my last year at school.

What would you like your legacy be for St. Peter’s College?

As mentioned before, I would like to implement new initiatives that I hope the next Social Justice Captain will carry on and focus on finding new ways to address and help out different injustices.

What are your immediate life ambitions and aspirations once you complete your studies at St. Peter’s College?

After I graduate, I hope to take the opportunity to travel a bit and take (what I hope will be) a well-deserved break before I begin university.

What are your long term life ambitions and aspirations?

I hope to become a lawyer in the future, I don’t know what type of lawyer yet- due to my being terribly indecisive. Whatever it is, I hope that it enables me to continue doing social justice work in the future.

In one sentence what would you like to say to your fellow students to convey your pride in your College?

To constantly take advantage of the many opportunities presented at St. Peter’s College and get involved more.
