Principal's Message

Principals’ Regional Conferences

This week on 6th and 7th June the Principal team will attend the South West Regional Conference at the Melbourne Convention Centre.  I will be presenting to Principals at the North East Region and our own South West Region on our school’s improvement journey. We will also attend workshops led by Misty Adoniou, a literacy expert and Vivianne Robinson, an expert about teaching and learning.

GIO Cup

Our rugby league boys were successful in winning the GIO Cup last week – a Tier 1 competition which has only 18 teams Australia wide. One of the VUSC games will be televised on Foxtel on July 28th. Congratulations to the boys and to Tony Adam for his fantastic coaching!

Sister school visits

Next term in week 2 we will be receiving a visit from our Chinese sister school again. There will be 17 students and 3 teachers with us for the week. They have been invited to Government House on the Tuesday and will spend the rest of the week in classes with our students. Thank you to the parents and teachers who have volunteered to host the students. Our students thoroughly enjoy the sister school visits each year and we’re looking forward to a good week.

In September, several  VUSC students from both the Junior and Senior campuses and 3 teachers will travel to China for a 2 week cultural tour.  During this visit they will go to Beijing, Nanjing, Shanghai and visit our sister school in the Jiangsu Province. This is an exciting opportunity for these students and we hope to be able to offer it to even more students next year.

Later Years Expo and Course Counselling

All Year 9, 10 and 11 students will take part in selecting their courses for next year early next term. This is an important time for students’ future careers and I urge all families to talk with your children about the subjects they are interested in or might like to try out. Each student will have an individual appointment with a course counsellor and it is important that the student and family consider and discuss their preferences before attending the appointment.

Staff Correction Day - Friday 15th June (student free)

Exams and semester reports are coming up soon. Staff will be taking June 15th as a student free day for correction and report writing. Reports this semester will be a statement of results as we have been continuously reporting throughout the semester as students have finished common assessment tasks. Reports will be available to parents at the end of term on Compass.

Rotary Club Award

The Rotary Club of Brimbank Central will be closing next Friday 8th June. They have invited me to their final dinner on that night, where they will be presenting me with a School Leadership award. I am honoured to be receiving such an award. It is disappointing that the club is closing as we have developed a good relationship with them in recent years with our concert bands playing at their events a number of times. I wish them all the best in the future.

Cheers,

Genevieve Simson
