Library News

From the Librarian

It’s always exciting to see new books coming into the Library. This week has seen the addition of a number of classical works for Senior students to engage with under the guidance of Mrs Kluge. We have a stand of new science books for Primary students and teachers to match with their National Curriculum studies. With our fiction choices, we try to find a balance between new authors/characters and the expansion of series that students are already enjoying.

One new book is the Reception/Year 1 book that we’ve been following through its stages of creation and production. Now bound and covered, the book looks inviting and the students are happy to be sharing it with others.

Meanwhile, we are waiting for the Monarch butterflies to emerge … they are going through the stages very late in the season this year. I’ve had butterflies appearing in the garden at home that I’m sure are missing the sun’s warmth of a few weeks ago! If our young students are doing the same, what better way to fill a cold, wet afternoon than curled up with a book!

Lunchtime Activity in the Library

As you will have seen in the Diary section of the Newsletter, we have the Library open each lunchtime with a variety of activities. With Lego Club, Weaving, Chess & other Board Games on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, that leaves quiet reading and colouring in for children to do on Thursday and Friday.

Premier's Reading Challenge

We’re just over half way through the term and have three months left until the Challenge finishes. Please encourage students to finish their twelve books, that’s 4 books a week, and hand their forms in before 6 September to receive their award later in the year. There is such a range of genres, series, topics etc. in the PRC lists that everyone should find more than enough books that would interest them to complete their Challenge.

A reminder: you can visit the Premier’s Reading Challenge website and go on Kidspace or Teenspace to join in the activities or give input to improve what PRC has to offer in the future.

Since the Book Week short-listed books were announced last term, the PRC website is updating its lists and adding some of the Book Week books. As soon as I have notification of the new additions, I will endeavour to have those we have in our Book Week collection available for the Challenge.
