Reconciliation Week Honoured

The term seems to be flying by and the end of the semester fast approaching. Over the next few weeks a number of our senior classes will be undertaking mid-year exams, whilst other new classes will be starting. It is a busy time of year for both staff and students and I would ask that you hold them up in prayer.

Last week we had the chance to celebrate Reconciliation Week. Our Secondary students took us on a journey through stories from Uncle Doug, Ruth and Iris, about the way the indigenous people were treated, but also on the importance of forgiveness and moving on. They tied it beautifully back to scripture, including Isaiah 61: 1-4 and Psalm 10: 12-14. I was personally fascinated how many indigenous people recognise that what was done in the past was wrong but would rather forgive and move on as one nation, reconciled together. It is important as a Christian community we ensure that we walk this journey with the indigenous communities we live in. The last scripture, Romans 12:16, very clearly reminded us to “Live in harmony with one another”.

Our Year 10 Outdoor Ed class has been out on camp for the last three days. Starting down in the Deep Creek Conservation Park, they have been making their way back towards Victor Harbor. These are great opportunities for our students to become more acquainted with our natural environment, giving them a greater appreciation of God’s creation, which surrounds us. I pray that as a result of this experience they come to understand the importance of community, and the roles and responsibility to steward this planet so future generations can also appreciate God’s creation. Please watch for photos to come in the following weeks.

The Year 7’s have also had the opportunity to have Buddy class with the ELC. I have attached a number of photos which tell the story of the morning.

God Bless,

Pre-Service Teachers

This term we’ve had the pleasure of having pre-service teachers from Flinders University in the Secondary School. It’s always interesting to hear the feedback they give about their experiences during their time with us. Jade Filsell has been teaching English with Mrs Kluge and Mrs Woolford and Georgie Thomas has been teaching Science with Mrs Baddams. We’ll miss having them around the school but trust that God will continue to guide them in their profession.

Their reflections on their time here are particularly heartening and speak volumes about our students’ approach to learning and community:

"This placement has shown me what a strong school community looks like. I have been incredibly welcomed by all staff and students, and am going to find it difficult to get back into my uni/work routine after this awesome experience. From this placement I have seen the true importance of support within schools, and how having a supportive environment for teachers ultimately benefits the students.

I have so many highlights from this experience, but to list a few:

  • Seeing the Year 11s present their amazing Creative Responses for English.
  • Having the Year 10s become their characters when reading The Great Gatsby.
  • Reading Tomorrow When the War Began with the Year 9s and having impromptu ethical discussions and debates.
  • Reading Blueback with the Year 7s, and listening to their wildly imaginative predictions about what will happen next.

This has been a journey that I will never forget, so a massive thank you to the Tyndale community for welcoming me with open arms.

God bless,

Jade

My name’s Georgina Thomas and I’m a pre-service teacher from Flinders University. I have just finished my 6-week teaching placement at Tyndale and have really enjoyed my time here. Over the last 6 weeks I have taught Year 8, 9 and 10 science and Year 11 biology. It has been so much fun getting to know the students and teaching them a range of different science topics including the periodic table, renewable energy and cell differentiation. Thank you to all the staff and students at Tyndale for making my placement a successful and positive experience.
