A Fortnight in Review
Well done to the Year 3 class for taking out the Uniform Award this fortnight during the Reception/Year 1 Assembly. It has been great to see the students wearing their uniform with pride. I also congratulated the Year 5 and 6 group for helping at lunch time as part of the Friendship Crew. Both classes were presented with the RISE Award. These students volunteer their time to assist the younger children with social skills and positive play while developing their own leadership abilities. Well done team!
During the Primary Assembly I spoke to the group about acceptable behaviours in the school yard. I discussed that repeated hurtful behaviours constitute harassment and that this does not belong anywhere, especially at School. I (and Primary Staff) have encouraged students, if they are feeling harassed, to say ‘stop’. If the behaviour does not stop, students are reminded to then complete a Harassment Form. This allows class teachers to monitor behaviour and document the steps and processes to assist the student(s) to reach a resolution. Counselling is available if required for either party. It is important for students to come with confidence knowing that there is a process in place to handle their concerns. Students who are unable to complete the form will be asked to verbally communicate their thoughts. If the behaviour continues, the matter will be taken up with myself or the Principal, Mr Nigel Croser.
Further, in order to effectively manage and act on behaviours, I strongly encourage parents/carers to engage with their child’s teacher. If there is an issue, it is more effective and helpful if teachers are aware so that the concerns can be resolved in a timely manner. Further information regarding harassment and behaviour can be located in the School diary (pp 14-15). Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Over the last two weeks, it has been exciting to see students talking about taking part in class excursions. These have included:
- ELC – Kuitpo Forest (see ELC page for story & photos)
- Year 5 – Monarto Zoo
- Year 4 – Adelaide Zoo
I know other classes have excursions planned over the next two weeks. It will be great to hear their stories and see their excitement; stay tuned.
I would like to again acknowledge the wonderful parents/carers who assist in the classes. It is very much appreciated by all at the School. Thank you.
Have a wonderful long weekend with your family and friends.
Take care.
